Quarter Midgets? Where do they race??

Does anyone know if there is a track around the St. Louis area that races quarter midgets? If so, where would I find some information on quarter midget tracks?

I've never been to Bunker Hill, but I have been to Greenville. First class facility run by first class people. They really are concerned about making sure that the kids learn how to race and they have produced some good racers when kids move out of 1/4 midgets.

What would people recommend for a 8 year old first starting out, Go-carts or Quarter midgets or something else? This is all new to me so any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

I raced Karts for about ten years and I can honestly say that it is a great starting point for youngsters to start their racing career. They are a little less expensive that the 1/4"s. There is a track in Pevely that is santioned by the St. Louis Karting Asst. That being said, the 1/4's are also a great choice as well. Although there were not alot of injuries in the Karts it's obvious that the 1/4's are safer with the roll cages and such. I too have the same problem. I'll have to check out both by the time my nephew is old enough.

This is the main website for I-70 QMA in Greenville, you'll find lots of information about quarter midgets including the novice program. I suggest you check out the "about the sport" and "novice training" links.

Hey Steve its Junior I work on Chad Sellers mod, don't know if you remember me or not. Chad's got both of his kids in quarter midgets and its a blast. We'll have some of the cars on display next week at Highland and will have more information about them. We also have our next points race next Sunday at Greenville. Come on out and watch, its free to get in and these little kids flat get after it. As for as go karts or quarter midgets, by far quarter midgets. They are alot safer, rules are very strict and teched often so everyone is equal and comes down to the setup and the driver, and if you ever have a problem at the track you've got about 10 people there asking if you need help. Come check em out next week at Highland or Greenville or both, if you got out to either of those stop by and talk to us and we can answer any questions you have.

How true but karts also offer you some real good racing. Here is what you realy need to ask yourself stot16 do you want to race oval or road course and is dirt your thing or pavement. Both offer some real challanges and safty well hands down QMA is safer. Things will happen in any form of racing so if getting hurt bothers some maybe they need to stay out of the car. This I will say QMA in Greenville those guys and gals are 100% the best. We went there for a ride and drive years ago and Bryan would not get in the kart but that didnot stop them from offering him a great time. We go back to watch as much as we can. Check em all out and remimber you are not limeted to just one track or club. Travel around and get the most out of the sport. Good luck

having been involved with both, the safer of the 2 is(by far) quarter midgets. as been said before, the rules are very strict, they do not stand for any misbehavior, (adults or kids) and they strive for a nice, pleasant experience. clearly, the facility and people at greenville are second to none. i would suggest going to both local tracks, spend time talking to as many people as you like, and making up your own mind. taking nothing away from the karts, as they are loads of fun, i wouldnt even consider a kart for my son.

Midget Racer we went to Bell-Clair for the Power i racing there and a friend of ours moved from karts to 600cc micro sprints. After spending the 2 days with them Bryan got up the nerv to sit in the seat. He realy don't like being in a cage but I think he is rethinking the whole thing. I got a feeling he might turn to sprints someday but is also thinking of road course racing with the SCCA eather way I am excited about him getting in a cage. One thing I have learned in racing is never pressure you driver as he will never drive at his best if he is not happy. Bringing up a kid in racing is a tough job. You are so right on the QMA again 100% the best bunch of people. Thought I would pass along Bryan's progress in racing as I am so proud of him in his racing and keeping the sport alive.

kent; 100% in agreement. while i am kind of disappointed that my son isnt showing any interest in the quarter midget in the garage, i am content to let him do what he wants to do. there is no law that says just because his great grandpa, grandpa, and dad raced, he has to, too.... maybe he will in time, maybe not. whatever he chooses,i will respect and support it. as parents we have to instill the desire, knowledge and ethics to be the best you can... if you have those qualities, ability and success will surely come.. this is a great subject. i hope it can stay adult-like and informative.

Ya I have told Bryan at any time he wants to call it quits we can han the karts on the wall and goto the zoo. The equipment is paid for and we can take it to a track and play anytime any day. Try not to get disappointed as I do also sometimes. I say we but an adult kart (of some kind) :) and go play and let the kids watch this time. :)

thanks everyone for the comments. I will definitely try to make it to Highland on saturday and let my girls check them out. If they like what they see, then we might just give it a try on Sunday. Thanks again to everyone who have filled me in with their experiences.
