COLUMBUS, MS – Rain has forced cancellation of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series events on Saturday and Sunday at Columbus Speedway. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Fall National events and the final points race for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour will not be rescheduled.
Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA is the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion and Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is the 2008 Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year.
Brindle and Knowles will be honored for their respective titles at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Annual Awards Banquet on December 10 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tampa, FL.
Brindle will receive $20,000 out of the $50,000 National point fund, a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new Mastersbilt chassis for the National Championship. Knowles will pick up $5,000 from Sunoco Race Fuels and a new Warrior chassis for the Rookie of the Year Award, in addition to his third-place share of the National point fund in the amount of $5,000.
The Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings and the Top 3 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East and West Regions will also be honored, and receive point fund money at the banquet.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Champions, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL in the East and Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS in the West, will each receive a $3,000 cash award and a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine at the banquet. Martin will receive a new GRT chassis, and McDuffie will receive a new Trak-Star chassis.
The next racing event for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will be the 4th Annual NeSmith Chevrolet World Championship Race, a 100-lap $10,000-to-win event, at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on December 12-13.
