Summer thunderstorms forced an early ending to an otherwise perfect night of racing at Warrensburg, Missouri’s Central Missouri Speedway Saturday night. It was a special night as track owner, Mr. Earl Walls, honored former announcer Tom Wilson prior to the evening's events with a heartfelt tribute made from atop the flag stand. Mr. Walls told the audience how this race, formerly known as the BBQ Bowl, was intended to be a big race much like the Chili Bowl. Unfortunately we lost Tom after the season had ended in 2003 and now the race is known as the Tom Wilson Memorial. The track was honored to have Tom's wife, Val, and several of Tom and Val’s family members and friends on hand for what was shaping up to be a fantastic night of racing on a lightning quick, tacky and smooth racing surface.

The evening got off to a great start as the limited late models took to the track first for a main event make-up race from a previous rainout. Virgil Jeffery of Ashland led the cars to the green and distanced himself from the field early on in the event. The race went caution free up to lap 8 when “Mountain Man” Mark Evinger put his #35e machine “over the mountain” in turns three and four. Thankfully the 35e stayed on all fours and was able to continue on. On the restart, Jeffery again took off from the field on the tacky surface and put a lot of daylight between himself and his competitors until Kevin “the Kid” Coyne put on a late-race charge. In the end Jeffery went on to victory over Coyne, Brett Rollert, Carl Lewis, David Gemes and Walt Imhoff. Virgil stated after the event that “he loved racing on surfaces like that, and wished he could have fun like that all the time.” It was Virgil’s second main event win in the Limited Late Model division this year, which allowed him to move up into 4th place in the points chase.

Prior to the rains coming down all the heat races were completed so the show is considered “complete” per the CMS weather policy. Special thanks to Adrienne Malinowski and C.A.R.B. for allowing us to use Tom Wilson’s C.A.R.B. Hall of Fame induction information for our “Thank You Tom” memorial display that was staged for all the fans to see as they entered the front-gate admission area. We would especially like to thank the Browning Brothers for getting in the spectacular fireworks display in time for the audience to enjoy before they had to make a fast-dash to their cars once the skies opened up. Make-up event dates and information from the July 3rd events will be announced shortly. We thank you for your patience as these decisions are made in the best of interests as possible for both the drivers and fans.

Don’t forget to join Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday, July 9th when the MSCS sprint cars will be on hand for Pepsi night at the races. All the cars and stars in the Mighty Modified, 305 Sprint, Limited Late Model and Street Stock divisions will be on hand to put on the best Saturday night races in Central Missouri. Gates always open at 5 with hot laps at 7 and racing getting underway at 7:30. Thank you as always for choosing CMS as your “dirt of choice for Saturday nights.”

Drivers please stop by to see Glyda at the pill draw stand to fill out your driver profile page for a special upcoming CMS racing insert in a local area newspaper. Thank you to the “Ozark Speaker” for this special feature.
