Mother Nature had some cruel tricks up her sleeve for Quincy Raceways on Mother Day. The Quincy Raceways track crew put in a mighty effort to just get the racing surface in shape after not one but two rain showers right before hot laps made the track surface extremely slick. But she saved the worst for last as after the Bomber 20 lap main event was completed and 9 laps of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature had been run, she dumped another shower of rain on the track forcing the postponement of the rest of the nights events until next week.

There was an announcement at the Bomber drivers meeting concerning the Disqualification of Adam Birck from last weeks Bomber Feature. Birck had been DQed for having a flywheel that did not quite meet the flywheel rule as it was spelled out, “Steel OEM flywheel only, 16 lb. Minimum”, and Birck’s weighed in at 15.5 lbs. During the past week, Birck was able to produce evidence that the flywheel in question was a stock OEM flywheel available from General Motors. This particular flywheel part number description says that the flywheel weighs in at about 15 pounds. Therefore the DQ was resended and Birck’s win was reinstated. The flywheel rule has now been clarified to read “Steel unaltered flywheel only – Minimum weight 16 pounts”, which will go into effect on Sunday, May 15.

The Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event took to the track for their 30 lapper but a rain shower during a lap 9 caution flag made the track untraceable, thus postponing the final 21 laps until the first event of the night next week. Brent Slocum was in the lead followed by Kevin Tomlinson, Joey Gower, Lonnie Bailey and Justin Reed. The heat race wins went to Brent Slocum, Billy Genenbacher and Jerry Weisenberger with Mike Karhoff taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

The Miller A-Modified heat race winners were David Weitholder and Henry Delonjay with Brandon Lennox taking the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. The B-Modified heat race winners were Wes Mayfield and Joe Bliven. The A and B Modifieds will both have full double feature events on tap on Sunday May 15.

The Bomber feature event came down to a battle between a youngster and a veteran as the youngster, Steve Watlkins Jr. won out and took his first feature win over Michael Larsen in second. Mike Robinson jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held of Michael Larsen for the fist 8 laps on the 20 lap main event but Watkins slipped by both to take the lead on the 9th lap. Watkins then held Larsen at bay for the rest of the event to take his first win with Larsen settling for second. Adam Birck crossed the finish line in third but for the second week in a row, problems surfaced in the tech lane after the event. Birch was found to have some problems with his rear suspension that did not meet the rules. His Disqualification then moved Eddie Dieker into third with Troy Brierton in fourth and Dusty Bingaman into fifth. Watkins, was awarded the win in the first heat race after Nicholas Meyer was DQed, Mike Robinson and Michael Larsen took wins in their heat races.

Quincy Raceways will have a huge night of racing on Sunday, May 15 with the Budweiser IMCA Late Models picking up their feature event on lap 10. The Miller Lite A- Mods will have a double feature as well as the B-Modifieds as the Gem City Ford Mother Day at the races are completed and then a complete new night of racing action will follow. Gates will open at 4 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and Racing Action at 6:30.
