BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (Aug. 29-30, 2003) The largest crowd in the history of Big River Sands Drags packed the facility to watch the largest car count in the track's storied past.
A standing room only crowd on Saturday night checked out the action as 141 competitors battled it out on the 300-foot sand track. Racers from as far away as Texas and Ohio were a part of the show on both nights.
Here's a recap of the action from both nights.
On Saturday night, David Mallow of Bonne Terre captured first place in the Competition Eliminator class with Steve Barton of Bonne Terre finishing second and then winning the top eliminator race.
In Open 4x4, Terry Wies of Wentzville was first with Dustin Griffin of Camp Point, Ill. taking second and winning the top eliminator race.
In Vehicle ET, Gladys Edwards of Bonne Terre was the winner with Philip Beaird taking second and winning the top eliminator race.
In Stock Buggy, Frank Shinault of Hillsboro was the top eliminator and first place winner while Gary Hollinsworth of Mineral Point settled for second place.
In Super Pro ATV, Mike Brooks of Coppel, Texas was the first place winner with Doug Brown of Bloomsdale taking second place and the top eliminator race.
In Pro ATV, Rick Finney of St. Louis was the first place winner, but it was second place winner Charlene Burns of Bonne Terre winning the top eliminator race.
In ATV-1, Allie Glatczak of Potosi was the first place winner with Alan DeClue of Bonne Terre taking second place and top eliminator.
In Junior ATV, Garth Farris of Potosi was the top eliminator and first place winner while Sarah Lunn of Pacific was second.
On Sunday night, Dustin Griffin was the top eliminator and first place winner in Open 4x4 with Terry Wies settling for second place.
In Competition Eliminator, Adam Smith of Mineral Point was the first place winner while Todd Dee of Leadwood was the top eliminator and second place winner.
In Vehicle ET, Philip Beaird was the first place winner with Brad Lunn of Pacific taking second place and top eliminator.
In Stock Buggy, Ralph Smith of Mineral Point was the top eliminator and first place winner while Gary Hollinsworth settled for second place.
In Super Pro ATV, Dale Bates of Festus was the first place winner, but it was second place winner Robbie Lingle of Anna, Ill. taking the top eliminator race.
In Pro ATV, Tim Brown of Bloomsdale was the top eliminator and first place winner while Tom Boyster of Mineral Point settled for second place.
In ATV-1, Cassie Patterson was the top eliminator and first place winner while Allie Glatczak was second.

Racing at Big River Sand Drags will continue this Saturday night (Sept. 6), but it will be an all ET event. All of the ATV classes along with Competition Eliminator and Vehicle ET class will participate. This is a points event for those classes.
