Red Hill Closed?

From the Terre Haute Tibune Star:
-- Red Hill suspends operations -- Red Hill Raceway owner-operator Jim Mills announced Tuesday at he has suspended operations at his half-mile dirt oval indefinitely.

Citing political differences with Lawrence County officials, Mills said it was impossible to get issues resolved in time to properly promote the two events remaining on the track's 2004 schedule.

Those included this weekend's planned USAC Ford Focus and non-winged sprint show and two-day card, originally scheduled for Oct. 23-24. Also tabled, according to Mills, was a planned half-million-dollar project at the facility located just south of Sumner, Ill..

Why is it the politics have to get in the way of racing? It just does not make sense for that to enter into an entertain area, but it seams to be the way things have to go.

If they could smooth out that racing surface, it would be a top-notch facility. Tons of parking, seating....great pit area...electronic scoring, etc... Everything seemed in order over there except the terribly rough track.

Looks like a beautiful place! Hope to see them reopen in 2005 with improvements on the racing surface. If so, I've gotta get to a race there!
