respect our flag & the prayer......

I wish that people that come to the races would respect those of us who bow our heads during the prayer. And those who do not remove their hats during the National Athem. Some will stand there & eat and ignore what is going on & others talk as they walk thru the stands. I have told some men to remove theirs hats during the National Anthem and they looked at me like they didn't know what I was talking about. We really do have alot to be thankful for.

Sorry KingEddy I have not been reading everyone's post from last week. I just know that when I take tickets at TCS some people have no respect. So please don't critisize what I have said. Just give me some support. That would be the best thing to do.

Perhaps ticket taking should cease during the invocation and national anthem. Maybe you should close your gate, block it and bow your head or salute the flag. If your taking tickets during these ceremonies, your just as guilty as the rest of them. Hows that for support?

BTW how was I criticizing you, I was just stating that we've already discussed this in detail and maybe you would be interested in reading that post.

Yes , everything should come to a halt, you don't have to bow if you don't wish, but be thankfull for are freedom.. Thanks to our Women & Men that protect us... No offence King..

And you should respect that I am not a religious person and do not take my hat off for the prayer...but I do take it off for the Anthem...and I respect yours and others decision to pray and what not...no disrespect intended just stating my side.

A guy pited 3 or 4 trailers down from Jeep came flying around the corner at Eldora last weekend and the guy that lets the cars out on to the track AFTER the Anthem ran over to the guy on the 4 wheeler and let him have it. I don't know what was said but the guy got an ear full. I know what you are saying it's disrespectfull as can be.
Good point sprint fan32 at least you do it for the Anthem. Everyones religion is there choice but if you live in my country RESPECT my flag or go home.

None taken. I didn't mean for it to sound like I thought otherwise.

I personally respect the National Anthem and believe everything should come to halt during it.

But I have always refused to bow during prayer, I don't bow in church either, when I go, not that I go as much as I should. I don't look down because as a kid I was taught, as we all were that Heaven is up, so why look down, to me that was disrepsecting God, so I look up during prayer to this day.

The last time I went to church the priest ask me why I didn't bow, I told him why, he laughed and said good point.

This is no joke; just why I don't bow but I am not being rude or disrespectful to those who do.

"But I have always refused to bow during prayer...to me that was disrepsecting God"

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but with this statement, you are wrong. Bowing our heads is a sign of obedience, reverence, and worship toward God. I understand not bowing if you do not believe in God, but it is clearly written in the Bible that bowing before God, kneeling in prayer, and bowing your head in prayer are what he expects of us. It shows our humility before him. If you don't pray, are not religious, whatever, that is your problem, but the big problem here is that no one has respect for anyone else. If nothing else, shut up and stand still in respect of the praying for the safety of the drivers, crew, and track officials, as well as the fans themselves.

But I would like to say thank you for show the respect for the flag and the anthem that they both deserve. Now if only we would all start showing prayer the respect it deserves....me included....

At Busch Stadium, when the Anthem is playing, the concessions stop serving. Why should it be any different at any other sporting facility, big or small?

I remember being at sporting events as a kid and watching everybody come to a complete stop when the national anthem played. That doesn't happen nearly as much these days, which is unfortunate.

But, just to be fair to all sides, keep in mind that there are religions here in the U.S. that say saluting a flag is to actually place a man-made symbol in higher regard than God, so they choose to bow to prayer but not salute the flag. That doesn't mean they love their country any less than the rest of us -- it just means they go about it in a different way.

At Eldora they announced that EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING IN THE PITS WOULD STOP during the prayer and anthem. They said they were not asking - they were telling.

This is how it should be at all tracks - and yes they should stop taking tickets, selling, etc. I can not stand to see people walking during either.

Yes, everyone has a right to their own belief, but what a disrespect and to let our kids see this type of behavior.

I for one believe tracks should enforce everything stopping. If people don't want to partake they should wait to come in.

I find this a little sad. I was born and raised a United Baptist and there is an American flag on the opposite side of the church as the Christian flag in almost ALL of our Association's Churches. People need to realize that the flag symbolizes the fact that they are able to choose any religion they want. If they seriously feel that because of their religion they cannot salute the flag, the least they can do is have enough respect for its meaning to stand still and be quite, because if we didn't have that flag, they wouldn't have their religion.

In an article I placed on another post, it talked about how teachers used to MAKE the children stand at the beginning of the day and say the pledge. This should STILL be enforced.

I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. It sounds like a good idea. I don't think there has to be a guideline for what you should do, we are all different. Bow your head, look up, whatever as long as you aren't being a distraction to others during this time. I don't think its too much to ask for people to stand still and be quite for 2 or 3 minutes.

The way I look at it though is most of those who show no respect during the openning prayer and anthem, probably go through life not respecting much if anything. They probably aren't doing it on purpose, its just their way of life.

Even if you don't believe in either GOD or our FLAG, at least show respect for those who do. jmo

You would think that with all the hustle and bustle that no matter what belief, people would just want to stop for a few minutes. Whether to pray or just to reflect on their life.

Thank you for telling me I am wrong, to you I am wrong, to me I am not. In this country we only bow during prayer. We do not bow when we meet the President of the United States or Governor etc... We shake hands. In the middle east and several other countries I would agree with you, bowing is respectful. As far as kneelilng I do when in church I just don't bow. That does not mean I don't believe in or respect God. I am not Baptist.

But I have the right not to bow just as you have the right to bow. I do respect God and pray daily. If I am wrong I will be the one judged by God I guess, but not by someone on this thread, I am not saying you judged me before you think I did, I am just saying I disagree with you.

But as adults we can agree to disagree.

Pride or I should say lack of respect for our country has gone to the way side for some older generations. I am sure they were taught, they just forget.
However, the pledge is still being taught in school. I bought a new flag this spring to replace Old Glory that waves in front of our house, out of respect for my country and to my family that proudly serves in our Armed Forces. Our grandson Dalton is in his second year of preschool. When he and my husband went to put the new flag on our house, Dalton without coaching, put his hand over his heart and repeated the Pledge of Allegience as it was being displayed. My heart swelled with pride.
Dalton and his sister Lilly she's 7, also sing the National Anthem at the race track or ball games or wherever they hear it. Not well but they try! I have had people look at me when they're singing, I just smile.
A local rado station has the pledge repeated every morning at 7:30 by local grade shool children. If I am talking both of my grandchildren tell me to shush!
Maybe their generation can get it right!
