THE GRANITE ROCKET
Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins passed yesterday the 29th,,NHRA Legand.. Rip Grump U will be missed...

That is a name I haven't heard for a long time. I remember back in the 70's when he used to race at the Stl. International Raceway(I think that was the name of the track back then). I remember when his car got stolen when he was racing the nationals in STL.

Bill was one of my heros from the time I was a teenager until the present day. His book was a constant reference for me in the early days, and I still refer to it even today. While attending an AETC conference in CO Springs back in the late '90's, I went to the bathroom to take a leak. While I was standing there, some guy comes in and stands 2 stalls away. It was Grumpy Jenkins; I could do nothing but stare. I guess I finally creeped him out, cause he finally said "How ya doin?". I latched onto him for the next 30 minutes or so as he toured the few exhibits just to hear any tidbits of wisdom he might drop. From then on, he was a highlight of the AETC's, and when he stopped attending, so did I. RIP Bill.
