Yost, H. Marshall, 76, of Webster Groves, Missouri passed away, Sunday, May 29, 2016.

Marshall’s entrepreneurial spirit saw him wear many hats during the course of his life. At the age of eighteen, he moved from Arkansas and settled in Saint Louis. In the early 60s he founded his first business, “Tuxedo Shell”. From the late 70s to 2000 he owned Marshall’s Auto Service in Maplewood. He was affectionately known as “The Carburetor Man”. Marshall’s passion for racing stock cars was widely known, and he could be seen racing at the St. Charles and Lake Hill Speedways in the 50s and 60s, where he drove the number 21 “Tuxedo Taxi”. He was also Promoter of both speedways in the late 60s and early 70s. An active leader in the community, Marshall was a member of Lions Club International for fifty years, serving as the President of Maplewood Lions Club and Webster Groves Lions Club. He was Missouri 26A District Governor and recipient of the Progressive Melvin Jones Award. He served two terms as a Webster Groves Councilman. Throughout his life, Marshall remained an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s and NASCAR fan.

Marshall is survived by his wife Brenda (Halsey), his wife of 56 years, daughters Denise (Cliff Hayes) Yost, Joyce (Mike) Hill, and Marsha Yost Bradford, Sister Linda (Kenny) Ford, Brother Jerry (Cheryl) Yost, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews. Marshall was known as “Poppy” to Daisy & Cole Bradford, Jack, Dan, & Kevin Gallagher. Marshall was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Beulah, in-laws Daisy (Granny) and Paul Halsey, brothers Norman and John, sisters Nina Treadway and Anna Sullins.

Services: Funeral service at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, 10301 Big Bend Rd, Kirkwood, MO. When I started racing in 1977 at Tri-City, Marshall was an official for Gateway Auto Racing Assn. I really liked and respected him. My condolences to his family. God speed, Marshall.
