BRASSTOWN, N.C. - August 8, 2017 - The Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV will present the second event of a double-header weekend on Sunday August 20th at Rome Speedway in Rome, Ga. racing 53 laps for $5,300-to-win.
The tour will visit the 'World's Fastest Half-Mile Clay Track" for the first time as this will mark a points race for the Bonus Series competitors. After the July 23rd rainout of the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals (Summer Tour) the event has been moved to become a Bonus Series points racing event. The Bonus Series competitors will visit North Georgia Speedway on Saturday August 19th for a 60-lap $10,000-to-win event before traveling to Rome Speedway Sunday Night. Tickets and armbands from the July 23rd rainout will be honored for this event.
There have been five different winners in five events held thus far on the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series heading into the August 19-20 events. Tim McCreadie won March 18th at Boyd's Speedway, Tyler Carpenter won on May 20th at Richmond Raceway, Donald McIntosh won at Tri-County Race Track on June 2nd, Eddie Carrier Jr. won June 24th at Florence Speedway while Vic Hill was the most recent series winner on July 1st at Tazewell Speedway.
On Sunday August 20th, the pit gates open at 3:00 pm, the grandstand gates swing open at 5:00 pm with the racing action getting underway around 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $20.00 per person with ages 9-17 admitted for $6.00 and children 8 and under admitted free. Trackside tickets are $25.00. Adult Pit passes are $35.00 per person with ages 11-under admitted for $11.00. A full racing program for all divisions will also be on tap.
The tire rule for the Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned event at Rome Speedway will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 along with the American Racer 48 and 56 compounds. The Late Model series entry fee is $100. Also, the highest finishing driver using a CT525 engine package will receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing driver using a Steel Head/SPEC engine package will receive a $200 bonus courtesy of the series.
