Roper Jr Tops Lebanon Midway Season Ender With Enduro Victory

Lebanon,Mo.-The racing season came to a close Friday night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway before a paked house and over 105 race teams in the pits with extra money on the line in all classes provided from Amsoil,The Heartland Antique Mall along with Kolt Knives, MWT Transportation out of Lebanon, Laclede County Heating and Air along with many others as another close night of racing saw a few new winners take home the checkered flag.

The SuperStock feature would see 19 strong take the opening Green as last weeks winner Rick Brown along with Jody Saultz brought the field down on the start.Brown looped it in turn 1 bringing out an original restart.On the drop again,Saultz took the early control with Joe Miller in hot pursuit followed by Tony Jackson Jr.Saultz who was looking for his first win of the season would hold the top spot until lap 9,when Miller shot to the outside and Jackson Jr. went down low making it a 3 wide battle going out of turn 2.From there all eyes were not only up front but Ben Newell who started 19th on the grid was quickly coming to the front.Jackson then took control followed by Miller as JC Newell made his presence known battling for third place.Jackson and Miller continued the war up front.On lap 14,Jackson used lapped traffic to take command and captured the feature event,his 5th of the season followed by Miller,JC Newell,Schaltz ans Ben Newell in the top 5.

The Winged SprintCars took to the track with Randy Roberts grabbing the opening lead on the 18 car field until he looped it in turn 4 moving Eric Todd into the lead.On the restart,Eric looked strong as Joe todd was now moving into contention with John Rowland,JP Compton,Andy Gill and Jeff Kinder battling for position.a couple of yellows for single spins bunched the field up as now Kinder was the man on the move quickly up to 4th along with Compton coming strong.Eric Todd continued to look strong as Kinder would loose power on lap 13 taking him out.On the restart Compton was on the move as John Rowland had now moving into second place as Joe Todd fell back alittle.Behind them were Josh Fisher,Mike White,Clint Todd Gill and others battling for position.Compton clearly had the fastest car on the track until lap 23 when his motor expired.On the restart,Eric Todd again pulled away followed by rowland Joe Todd,and now Andy Gill in the hunt.As they crossed the stripe,Eric claimed his second victory followed by Rowland,J.Todd Gill and Clint Todd.Following the trophy presentation,Knife country USA in Lebanon at the Heartland Antique Mall presented a special edition Bone-handled Bear MGC Bowie Knife with an estimated value of over $500 to the winner.

The Bomber feature saw 16 take Leo Morgan's green flag as Dusty Rhoades took the opening lead with last weks winner Mike Piercey following close behind along with Robert White.Piercey would look high and low to take control,but Rhoades was holding on strong until Piercey went by the wayside with a flat tire.On lap 9,Jack Hamer found the front-stretch wall hard bringing out the red flag.Hamer was able to walk away unhurt but a damage car.On the restart,Robert White looked down low several times on the leader Rhoades,but Dusty hangs on while Tyler Schoen and Carl Weaver were battling for 3rd place along with Chad Cromer.

On lap 13,White pulled the winning move out of turn 2 and held off repeated challanges from Rhaodes to claim the win along with a $100 winning bonus from Amsoil.Following the lead duo to the line were Schoen,Weaver,and Cromer.Special lottery positions were drawn before the race as 6th place Missy Shaw recieved an extra $50 bonus for her 6th place position and Jerry Goring recieved an extra $100 from Amsoil for his 7th place spots.

The Mini-stocks brought down the 20 car field as veteran Leon Fellers took the opening lead quickly with Larry Andrus following closely behind as 2-3 wide racing was displayed all night long.Back in the field John Wagner Jr and Bryan Deatherage were coming through the pack as Chris Morelock was holding onto position.On lap 9,John Henson's night ended early with mechnical problems and bunched-up the field.On the restart Fellers was holding te fast line as Wagner was trying to overtake him to claim the $500 to win show as Deatherage had moved into 3rd place as now DeWayne Applegate was on the move quickly to the front.As the lead duo took the white flag,Wagner went upstairs in turn 2 and pulled off the winning pass over the veteran Fellers just nipping him at the stripe with Deatherage,Morelock, and Applegate at the stripe.A special $100 bonus from Amsoil was draw and 10th place Larry Andrus claimed that prize.

The 30 car Enduro 100 lap feature paying 1500 to win brought out the Pure Cars as A& C Construction of Lebanon came aboard that night as the event sponsor allowing 500 to be paid for 2nd place and all drivers recieving 50 to start.On the 3 wide start Tim Brown shot up front from his pole spot with Jerry Wasmer,Dale Roper Jr.,John Anthony,Brian Monahan,Scott Atkinson following.With Brown setting a blistering pace,Roper Jr and Wasmer were battling for position was previous Enduro winner Tony Jackson Jr was moving up in the field.On lap 17,Greg Brown flipped his car in turn 3 bringing out the red flag.On the standinbg still start,Tim Brown was about to hit heavy lapped traffic as Kenny Carroll,Robert White,Rex McCroskey and others were trying to stay on the lead lap.With the green displayed,Jackson's car wouldn't start but the green stayed out.Leader Brown tried for several laps to get around Carroll and McCroskey and finally made the move around lap 54.Roper had now moved into 2nd as Wasmer had spun in turn 2 losing positions.Monahan had a strong run go south as he pulled in around lap 55 as McCroskey was now the fastest car on the track running down Roper Jr.

With Brown in a zipcode all alone,lap 61 proved to be the turning point as his car lost power as now McCroskey had overtaken Roper Jr. and grabbed the lead.McCroskey's front run would be slowed as an oil fire was shooting underneath taking him out of action giving Roper the top spot and putting Kenny Carroll in second followed by Atkinson.Attrition was taking its toll tonight as drivers were gonig out quickly as the 2 week break from the previous Enduro wasn't enough.Caroll closed in on Roper around lap 77 and moved to within 5 cars with Atkinson coming quickly also.With only 14 cars still running Roper moved upstairs and started to pull away from Carroll.As the checkered waved,Roper Jr claimed the top spot followed by Carroll,Atkinson on the lead lap.Jerry Wasmer finished 2 laps down followed by John Anthony 6 laps down as Clinton Betts won the bonus money for his position.

The Speedway started the evening with a special salute to Springfield's Larry Phillips.Larry who had touched the lives of all racers in the Ozarks was honored with a special checkered flag ceremony as Larry Andrus carried his #75 car around the track as the capacity crowd stood on its feet.As Andrus brought his final of 2 laps around,all drivers and crews were gathered in turns 3&4 honoring the 5 time Nascar Champion.With Andrus going under the flagstand,the crowd clapped the final lap in Phillip's honor as the starters checkered flag waved following a special fireworks salute.
The Speedway will host a special Tractorpull on October 9 with over 10 classes on hand.A&C will be an event sponsor that evening as the pulls will start at 5PM.
