Steve Rushin took top honors in Late Models at the Malden Speedway Friday night. Rushin's win ended Billy James's eight race winning streak for 2005.
Robert Powers came through the field to take the Modified checkered. Also making it to victory lane were Greg Sparks in Hobby Stocks, Paul Reeder in Pure Street, Jeff Jarrell took E-Mods, and Kenny and Tim Doublin continued to roll on in the Cruisers.

Steve Rushin and Billy James renewed one of the oldest rivalries at the Malden Speedway. Both were coming off some impressive races, Rushin finished second in the MARS race at West Plains and James had smoked a Memphis Motorpark field August 26th. Rushin jumped to the lead from the pole and never trailed in the race. James held close early in the race, but by the midway point Rushin was starting to pull away. He continued to widen the gap the rest of the way and lead by a full straight by the checkered flag.
James was never challenged for second. Dane Dacus picked up his second top five finish in as many trips in third. Joey Mack and Steve Karnes rounded out the top five. Rushin and James won the heat races.

In an ugly Modified feature, marred by 11 caution flags, Robert Powers rode a roller coaster of emotions to the feature win. The race opened with Larry Hull grabbing the lead from the pole position. Powers took over the lead coming out of turn two on the third lap. As they headed into turn three, Hull and Powers got together and collected several other front running cars.
Dustin Billingsley, Greg King, and Dicky Jackson all had to leave to fix flats and were relegated to the rear of the field along with Powers and Hull. Jeremy Conners inherited the lead while there was furious racing behind him. Powers had moved back through the field and was running third by the fifth lap and challenged Conners a lap later. Powers first passed Conners on the back straight on lap 6 but a caution flag nullified it. A lap after the restart, Powers regained the lead for good as he overtook Conners on the front straight. Later in the race, Shane Stephens and Claudie Cook had quite a battle for the second spot. They raced side by side for two laps before Cook prevailed. Larry Hull moved back up to take fourth. Conners fell back from the lead all the way to seventh but battled back the final two laps to take fifth. Heat winners were Hull, Billingsley, and Powers.

Greg Sparks dove under early leader Tim Winchester on a first lap restart and led the rest of the way to win the Hobby Stock feature Friday night.
Following a lap one caution, it took three tries to get the race going again, but when the dust cleared Sparks was out in front with Winchester and Hunter Rasdon in close pursuit. The leaders encountered lapped traffic from lap 11 on, but that would not figure into the final standings as the three maintained their one-two-three positions. Scott Tracer took fourth and Johnny Houart captured fifth as he moved the very successful 34 car up from the Street Stock class. Heat winners were Jeff Greene, Winchester, and Rasdon.

Paul Reeder earned the pole position and led all 15 laps to win his fifth Street Stock feature of the year, and in doing so he locked up the season point championship also. Reeder's only serious challenges came on two mid race restarts following caution periods, but this was his night. The real battle developed for second as Coot Wilson withstood a furious late challenge from Jeff Beeson. Wilson took second by inches as the pair were even coming out of turn four. Beeson had to start at the rear of the field despite an apparent win in the heat race because he failed to weigh afterwards. He weighed following the feature and passed. Chris Kelley and Mike Massie made up the rest of the top five. Heat winners were Reeder and Kelley.

Jeff Jarrell grabbed the lead from the outset and never gave it up to win his first E-Mod feature of the year. Tim Prine made a race of it late as he closed to Jarrell's bumper on lap 11 and made a dive low coming out of turn four for the lead, but Jarrell held on at the line. Jim Eubanks took third, Scott Wicker and Todd Gibbs rounded out the top five. Eubanks won the heat race handily.
