Safety Equipment

I am looking to upgrade my safety equipment for next year. I used a hans device last year that was a friends and got used to it. I was curious as to what everybody prefers, and hans, hybrix or defnder. I know less people use the defnder, and but I have heard it was more comfortable and better for side impacts.

I am hoping to get a full containment seat if it is in the budget. What seat is everybody using? Butler built, kirkey,??

I am hoping that others find this useful as well this off season!

Thanks!

I use a Hans and an UltraShield Full Containment. Love them both and wouldn't climb in a car without them again. A very comfortable combination with good protection. I'm upgrading to the quick release tethers this year though for easier and quicker connection. As far as the seat goes, it's very lightweight but offers good protection and visibility at a reasonable price. It is very comfortable and an extreme upgrade from a standard alum. Seat. Mine does however only have the partial snap in covers, i think the full cover would be more comfortable but overall a great seat. Hope that helps! Ryan Middaugh

Just remember never cut corners when it comes to safety... I always say a few more dollars and it will save your life !!!

Lane,

As far as seats go Butler Built is a great choice. They now have an affordable containment seat which the Butler Built EZ series. A full containment seat is definately the way to go. Regarding the head restraints, all the ones that you mentioned are good choices as long as you are using a full containment seat. You are right that the Defnder is better for side impact collisions, but unfortunately it is no longer available. The Defnder has been replaced with the NecksGen. You should also consider upgrading your harness system as well. If you want to get extremely tight in the seat you should consider upgrading to the Hooker Harness ratchet system. http://www.hookerharness.com/racingaccessories.php You will not find a harness system that will get you any tighter and keep you tight throughout the entire race without loosening. Tons of dirt racers are currently using this same harness system. We are currently a dealer for Butler Built, and Necksgen and obviously we are the manufacturer of the harness system so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email or call.

Hooker Harness is the best in the business. We have them on our modified and after using them I will never use anything else. They never loosen during races and always have a good comfortable feel to them. If you are wanting the safest they are definitely the way to go.

Check out this wreck from Mike McKinney. He was using their belts and they kept him held tight the entire time.

hooker harness is defantly the best and go out of there way to stay on top of saftey... my opinion dont look at price when it comes to saftey, its ur life in the car. Spend the extra money for saftey. we use Hooker Harness and only hooker harness for saftey.. I have seen kirkey seats bend and break my opinion they are not safe. just my opinion..

Thanks for the replies so far. I hope it helps others as well. I agree on never cutting corners on safety equipment.

I feel this year has really tested the safety in racing. I've seen some bad wrecks and its great to see these guys walking away. Keep up the great work on the safety part and these guys building safe cars !!!
