<b>J.C. NEWELL 'NEW' WINNER, HOLLAND IS HOT WITH SECOND WIN DURING SATURDAY'S COLISEUM INDOOR KART RACING SERIES!
First Win for Carrolton's 'Kid' Corbin This Season! </b>

It was definitely proven Saturday night, during the fifth of nineteen events scheduled for the 2002-3 “Coliseum Indoor Winter Speedway Kart Racing Series” on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, that no matter how many karts compete in 'the different kind of horsepower' racing action it always comes out exciting.
Due to other types of racing activity that took place in the area this weekend, including many going to the Central Auto Racing Boosters 50th Anniversary banquet to collect their season's laurels, 89 karts registered to run in a very fast and close 49 total events on the high-banked, 1/8th mile dirt oval. All that was run at a record pace of 3 hours and 17 minutes, including three time-breaks.
For some of the racers present, they finally found their first seasonal victories.
For Jon 'the kid' Corbin from the midwest's “racin' town” of Carrolton, Missouri, he seemed! to win left and right the last two season's. This year, however, it seemed harder for the flying youngster to grab a winner's trophy. That finally ended with his first victory of the year by copping the Fairfield Motor Service Stock Heavy class feature.
Stoutland, Missouri's young J.C. Newell, who was miss-called by the wrong name during the qualifying heats due to another number 83 kart in the midst of the fray, definitely made it known who he was by winning for the first time in the Anderson Kart Engines of Lee's Summit' Rookie Beginner's division.

Always a top three runner and many time winner Jordan Holland from Fulton took more than a little while this season to finally win in the massive Goody's Steakburger Junior 1 Lights the week before. Holland then proved his tenacity as he took the win for the second week in a row from second placer and double class points leader Ethan Burke and third place fini! sher Will Wolf. Another 'Fulton-ite', Patrick J. Mahnken, was able to reveal that he was 'the real thing' by winning yet again in the Schilby's Auto Center Junior 2 Lights main event. The victory two weeks ago was his first-ever after starting the racing sport just last year.
It was a wild fling again in the Kix Country Krazy Kage Karts 15 lap feature run. First leader in the scramble was last week's winner Jon Hendon, but he and defending champ Delan Askins got hooked up, spun, and then sent to the rear. That handed the lead to Versailles' Matt Simpson, who went on to win the class main event for the second time this year. Herndon fought his way from last to second while Christopher Moon paced his way to third.
Although the action was super-quick and wild, the way it usually is, all of the racers kept their karts right side up with the 'Rubber Side Down'; i.e., no flips.
&nb! sp; Speaking of 'rubber down', it was announced that 15 year-old Chad Mosbauer, who hails from Fulton and is in his second year driving in the very fast 2-cycle machines, has been featured in a story with related action photos in a recent, nationally published book titled, in fact, “Keep the Rubber Side Down”. The book is currently showing up at bookstores and school libraries across the nation.
The next two Saturday nights, December 14th and 21st, will continue with action in the Coliseum before taking the season's only break during the Christmas holiday on Saturday night, December 28th.
As always, the racing fans out for their wintertime 'need for horse-powered speed' definitely get their attendance money's worth every week, including this coming Saturday night's 6th event of the series.
That, along with the supplied heat in the historic Missouri State Fairgrounds building and the 'Coliseum Karting Con! cessions' delicious food, fans and competitors always look forward to returning.
Admission to the grandstands for adults is $5, 6 to 10 years old-$3 and under 6 years of age, free. The pit office starts taking sign-ins at 1 p.m., the grandstands are unlocked at 3, hot laps circle at 4 with the first qualifying heat flagged for 5 pm.
