Serious Tire Issues

So Slick Sammy Driggers and his partner in crime Brian Carter are now convinced that 20s on the LR and RF will work at every track. Eldora had unusual weather and is a far different track than others. In addition, I will say that there were more tires sold at Eldora than any previous year. This benefits UMP and the Purple Mafia ( Hoosier) only.

So here are the questions I pose to our local racers, race promoters and specifically to Hoosier and UMP:

1) Why 20s? Why not go to all 40s? Other racing sanctions are going harder on tires. Why go soft? (More money for UMP and Hoosier is not an acceptable answer!)

2) would 20s last on the RF and LR during the summer months at I55?

3) same question for Tri-city?

4) why would a race track/promoter support or allow these rules when they know it cost racers more? Would a racer go to another track that supports a hard tire rule?

Thanks in advance for your input.

The drivers were not sure how it would work out before the weekend, but overwhelmingly were in support of it afterwards. All tracks and series need to limit tire choices (less tires to buy) and end the grooving/siping (saves the crews a lot of time). I agree a harder tire is better (should last longer).

Go read what Bob Pierce had to say on Dirt-on-Dirt about this issue.

20s will last long if they don't get grooved and siped. And that will most likely be the rule of the future.
I think they need to go with something similar to the wrs55 tire but I doubt will ever happen.

Ruhlman ran the same 4 tires all 3 days. Sure it won't work everywhere but it can't be a bad thing. The only thing they can do is try it, never know until you try.

I think you guys are missing my point. I would like only one tire compound. I would like no siping or grooving. But why use 20s and why use two tire compounds? Also would like some feedback on whether 20s will work on the two tracks noted.
I think many of you know that it will not work on those tracks. So why would you allow UMP to do this if you know it's not going work and will cost you more?

Rusty, do you run 20s at I55 or TriCity when the track is hard, black and slick? Why not?

You people complain about racing going downhill but you don't bitch when UMP does stuff to push it that direction. IMCA has expanded by supporting and promoting lower cost in racing. Lower cost motors, harder tires. Cheaper shocks etc etc. UMP has done just the opposite. As long as promoters and racers continue to be sheeple and not hold UMP accountable the downward spiral will continue.

Why not 40s only? It costs UMP and their partner in crime Hoosier money.....That's why! . Don't go ask you sponsor for money to race if you're not going to try and help keep the cost down. Open your mouth and stop letting these idiots rule your racing life. Are you afraid of Sammy Driggers?
Rant over!

I normally run 20 on the LF and LR and 40 on the RF and RR I was just asking about the wear because I haven't ever run one uncut so I wasn't sure how they would wear I deffenatly like the idea of the no cutting deal save tons of time the explanation I got on why not a hard tire was that people would treat them to be softer I'm deffenatly not against you I was just uninformed on the wear I'm all for trying to save time and money but this deal isn't a democracy no one cares what I have to say I have a bunch of ideas that would save money but no one would care to hear it they would just say I'm a cry baby and move on

So it works like this in America. You speak your mind when you disagree. You go to your promoter and make your point. You promoters should do the same with UMP. You can boycott or change sanctions. But if you do nothing or say nothing then you will get the same old crap.

So why don't you run 20s on the Rf on hard, slick black race tracks? Because they won't last and it will cost you the race and the tire. I need to hear from more racers. We raced at the two tracks in question. I don't believe the 20s would work. Because it worked at Eldora doesn't mean it will work at area tracks. Why not just go to 40s? UMP won't answer that. If you can't figure out why then you're a sleep at the wheel. Would you let someone reach in your pocket and just take your money? Well you are!

I have said for years just go to a 40 only tire rule it would definitely help us little guys out but was always told that the contracts the promoters signed wouldn't let them do that

Our tire rule for the July Lucas race was 3-20's and a 40 RR, it seemed to work out good. No excessive wear.
Also I like the NO Grooving or Siping like we had at Eldora. We used 6 tires all weekend & probably could have just used 4. Sure cuts down on tire prep time & it seemed to level the playing field a little also. Everyone had concerns going into the weekend, but there was NO real wear to speak of.
I will have the set we ran with me @ Tri-City Friday if anyone would like to look at them.

Thanks, Kevin

not that I am a front runner BUT I would like to see 40s allowed on the RF as well as the RR--- JM O A-MODs

Kevin, I appreciate the fact that you want to be politically correct with UMP and Sam.......but why not all 40s? That's the real question I would like answered by Hoosier and UMP. And BTW...let's not kid each other. All 40s are better than any 20/40 combination. A 20/40 combination will not ALWAYS work at your track.
