We have a really big weekend on tap in Central Illinois to bring the racing season to a close. National Speed Sport News presents the 'Shaheen's Super Weekend' this Friday October 11 at Lincoln Speedway and Saturday October 12 at Jacksonville Speedway.

For many years, Jacksonville Speedway has paid tribute to Joe Shaheen and 'Little Springfield' with the Shaheen's Blast From The Past, a season ending sprint car event that traditionally draws a great field of top drivers from throughout the Midwest. At Jacksonville, we consider it to be our biggest event of each year. However at the end of the season, Springfield Speedway would traditionally host a 'Super Weekend' which was a multi-day event that often included racing both at Little Springfield and sometimes the mile at the fairgrounds. (I'll defer to Joyce Standridge on the actual history at Springfield to correct me if I say something erroneous.) After the closing of Springfield in 1987, there was a Shaheen's Super Weekend held at Godfrey and Tri City in 1998, with Sammy Swindell winning both events. http://www.midwestracingarchives.com/2011/10/1988-swindell-sweeps-shaheens-super.html

This year we are renewing the 'Super Weekend' tradition with two big nights at Lincoln and Jacksonville.

Friday Night at Lincoln Speedway: MOWA 410 Winged Sprints, Big 10 Super Late Model Championship, UMP Modifieds and Midget Lites/Lightning Sprints.

Saturday at Jacksonville Speedway: MOWA 410 Winged Sprints for $4,000 to win for the MOWA Season Championship, UMP Modifieds, Neal Tire 305 Sprints, Street Stocks and 600cc Micros.

Also on Saturday we will have a 100 lap hornet enduro starting at 2:00 the '4 Cylinder Mafia 100' (The 4 cylinder Mafia is what our local group of hornet drivers call themselves.) There will also be an outstanding vintage race car show during the day from 11-4 at the fairgrounds, live music and many other activities during the day.

Joyce Standridge's new book "Did You See That? Unforgettable Moments In Midwest Open Wheel Racing" will be available for purchase. We are also encouraging people to bring donations for a later St. Jude Auction and the MOWA auction to support both organizations. Anyone bringing a meaningful item of some value will receive $1 off of their Saturday admission.

Grandstand admission is $20 with Children 12 and under Free.

Any questions, please call or text 217-371-3653.

The night's card will hot lap at 6:10 with racing starting at 7:00, or a few mins earlier if we can get things rolling. I think we are going to have some nice tailgating going on during the afternoon, 3:00 Cardinal game on in our bar area, live music etc. Should be a fun afternoon and night.
