Pevely, MO (July 15, 2006) Shop N Save presented Race Night for Special Champions at I-55 Raceway to raise money for Special Olympic at I-55 Raceway and great field of racers turned out in support of the event. There was $5,000 on the line for the winner of the UMP Late Model event and Brian Shirley came away with the win in one of the most exciting late model events at I-55 Raceway in recent history. Bryan Collins jumped out to the early lead over pole sitter Terry English. Those two battled side by side for much of the first ten laps of the twenty-five lap main event. Meanwhile, Steve Sheppard and Brian Shirley were working their way through the field. A three-way battle soon ensued for the top spot as Sheppard and Shirley moved in on Collins and three put on a great battle as they swapped positions through lapped traffic. Shirley soon found the best line through traffic and took the lead with just a hand full of laps remaining and went on to victory. Sheppard also got by Collins and took the second position. English crossed the line in fourth behind Collins and Billy Faust completed the top five.
Bobby Bittle once again put on a clinic in the UMP Modified division. The point leader simply dominated the main event once again as he cruised to the win. The battle was for the second position between Bobby Martintoni, Tom Seets and Rick Stevenson. Martintoni held the second spot for most of the event as Stevenson and Seets tried to pass him high and low. A mechanical problem developed on Martintoni's car as the right rear shock broke loose around the half way point. However, it didn't slow him much as he continued his battle for the second spot even with the problem. Stevenson's tires finally came in late in the race as a long green flag run got them heated up. Stevenson took over the second spot with just four laps remaining and held on to that spot at the end. Martintoni took the third position and Seets was fourth. Jeff LeBaube worked his way from deep in the field to earn a top five as he finished fifth.
Steve Maisel led all fifteen laps of the UMP Sportsman main event to earn the win. Point leader Troy Naeger kept the pressure on as he stayed glued to Maisel's bumper for much of the event. But Paul Bauman moved past Naeger and began to challenge Maisel for the lead, but came up short and settled for the second position. Naeger came home third, Mike Nicholson was fourth and Ronnie Bader rounded out the top five.
Trey Harris claimed the AARA Pro 4 Stock main event as he held off Gary Price for the win. Conrad Miner, Mike McMullen and Brad Smith completed the top five.
