UNION, KY (6/23/07) - Shon Flanary sealed the deal Saturday night at Florence Speedway, besting a field of 48 entries to earn the his first win in the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series competition. The Mt. Carmel, TN driver stormed into the lead on lap 5, and held on through a late race restart to earn the $1,500 prize, making him the 4th winner in 5 races in 2007.

Ron Jolliff Jr. and Shon Flanary would set the pace for the 25 lap A-Main, which would see Jolliff get the jump going into turn one. Behind the Metamora, IN driver, Flanary had his hands full as he battled with Ted Nobbe and Earl Plessinger. As those three battled, Brandon Green and David Spille would join in to make for an entertaining five car battle for 2nd.

Flanary would eventually separate himself from the furious battle for position, and began to set his sights on tracking down Jolliff. It didn't take long, as Flanary would draw alongside Jolliff for the lead as the field completed lap 4. The two would battle side by side for the top spot for an entire lap before Flanary gained a clear advantage coming off of turn four to lead lap 5.

Behind the leaders, the battle for position continued as Nobbe, Green, and Plessinger swapped spots as they closed in on the fading Jolliff. Nobbe would pass Jolliff for 2nd on lap 8, and spent the next several laps reeling in Flanary, who had built his lead up to about half a straightaway.

The first caution of the night flew on lap 14, as Warsaw, KY's Shawn Tolson spun in turn 4 to set up the Delaware double-file restart. With Flanary out front by himself, Nobbe would chose the inside line followed by Green, Jolliff, and Plessinger rounding out the top 5.

When the green flag waved it was Green who would get the jump into turn one, separating himself from Nobbe and racing alongside Flanary for the lead. One of the wildest moves of the race occurred behind the leaders, as current NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series points leader Joey Kramer found himself in mid-pack after transferring out of a B-Main. Kramer rocketed out of turn two on the restart, passing a half dozen cars, including a daring 4-wide pass going into turn three.

Back up front, Flanary was able to hold off Green's challenge and once again began to extend his lead, building nearly a full straightaway advantage as the field closed in on the 20 lap mark. Just when it appeared that the Mt. Carmel, TN driver was headed for an easy victory, contact in the middle of the pack sent Ron Jolliff Jr. into the front stretch wall on lap 21, collecting 3rd place points man Russ Gabbert along with David Spille.

The caution would set up a 4 lap shootout for $1,500, which would see Green choose the inside line on the double-file restart behind race leader Flanary, followed by Nobbe, Kramer, and Dave McWilliams. On the ensuing restart, Flanary got the jump he was looking for, and took a 2 car length lead into turn one. As Green had his hands full trying to keep the rest of the top 5 behind him, Flanary would inch away in the closing laps to score the first NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series victory of his career. The $1,500 win would vault the Mt. Carmel, TN driver all the way up to 2nd in the series points standings. Following Flanary to the line were Green, Nobbe, Kramer, and David Spille.

Flanarys' #98 Harris Chassis is sponsored by Fast Trucking, PPG Flat Glass, Chrome Heaven, Hyperco, and S&G Automotive.

Don Adams set fast time during Time Trials for the second race in a row with a quick lap of 17.339 seconds around the 1/2 mile Union, KY oval. The night featured a season high car count of 48 entries, which set up six exciting heat races won by: Shon Flanary, Earl Plessinger, Brandon Green, David Spille, Ted Nobbe, and Ron Jolliff Jr. Joey Kramer and Kevin Copher would take the night's two B-Mains.

The next NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series event will take place at Larry Yantz's Ponderosa Speedway this Friday night June 29th.
