Inside Line Promotions - ORRVILLE, Ohio (April 25, 2017) - Steering problems kept the Leidig/Warko/Smith racing team busy throughout last weekend.
Despite the problems, Ryan Smith was able to produce a solid night with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway, where he posted an 11[sup]th[/sup]-place finish to remain fourth in the championship standings.
The weekend began on Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the track's season opener. Smith placed third in a heat race, which lined him up 12[sup]th[/sup] in the main event.
"We had steering issues throughout the night so I just pulled in," he said after ending 19[sup]th[/sup]. "We replaced the box and thought we had it resolved for Saturday, but we must have had an air bubble or something in the line because I had very little power steering."
Smith qualified fifth quickest overall and third in his group at Wayne County Speedway on Saturday. He then finished second in his heat race to make the dash, in which he posted a fifth-place result to line up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.
"Because of the issues with the steering I didn't feel comfortable to get up and run the wall, which was the place to be," he said. "I ran the bottom and backed up at the start, but it started to come around and I was able to get back up to 11[sup]th[/sup]."
Smith is very excited about this weekend of racing as the All Star series heads to Pennsylvania. A tripleheader begins on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., before moving to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., on Saturday. The weekend wraps up on Sunday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa.
"We are back on my home turf," he said. "A couple of weeks ago at Williams Grove we were pretty good and the last time we were at Port Royal I was running third when we had an old tire seal up. Two years ago at Bedford I ran third with the All Stars. I'm really pumped and want to get a win to get the monkey off our backs. It could be a huge weekend for us points-wise."
