BRASSTOWN, N.C. - August 29, 2017 - The Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV will sanction a stop at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on Sunday Night September 3rd during the Ninth Annual Buddy Rogers Memorial.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Series Super Late Models will race for 44 laps and $4,400-to-win and $400-to-start. This will mark the fifth-ever series appearance to the high banks of the track nestled in the mountains of East-Tennessee. In addition to the Super Late Models, Brucebilt Iron-Man Modified Series will race 20 laps for $1,000-to-win while the Sportsman, Super Stocks, Classics and Four Cylinders will all be on the racing card for the evening.
On Sunday September 3rd the pit gates will open at 3:00 pm and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 pm. Adult general admission will be $20.00 per person and adult pit passes are $35.00 per person.
David Payne of Murphy, N.C. is the defending race winner of the Buddy Rogers Memorial. Payne claimed the $4,400 payday over Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Tenn., Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga. and Ross White of Knoxville, Tenn. last season.
So far this season there have been six different winners in seven events held on the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series. Tim McCreadie, Tyler Carpenter, Donald McIntosh, Eddie Carrier Jr., Vic Hill and Mike Marlar (twice) have all captured wins this season.
Ten different winners have visited victory lane on the Schaeffer's Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series as Shanon Buckingham, Kenny Collins, David Payne, Tyler Carpenter, Tommy Kerr, Chris Combs, Vic Hill, Freddie Carpenter, Hudson O'Neal and Tanner English have all captured Iron-Man paydays. The Modified Series has seen seven different winners in eight events so far as Brad Hall, Clayton Miller (twice), Shon Flanary, Keith Smith, Blake Brown, Devin Gilpin and Victor Lee have all captured victories.
Tazewell Speedway along with Jimmy "Pup" Thomas of Hoosier Tire South is once again raising money for the American Cancer Society in conjunction with the Buddy Rogers Memorial 44. Drivers, fans, business owners, and anyone else can sponsor a lap for $44 (or more if someone choses to donate more). The tire rule for the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series and Schaeffer's Oil Iron-Man sanctioned event at Tazewell Speedway will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 along with the American Racer 48 and 56 compounds. The series entry fee is $100. Also, the highest finishing driver using a CT525 engine package will receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing driver using a Steel Head/SPEC engine package will receive a $200 bonus courtesy of the series.
The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the racing program. The entry fee for Modified competitors will be $20. The Modified tire rule for the event will be as follows: Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed. The only tires that can be siped on the rear is the Hoosier M-60 and American Racer Extra Hard. All Modified non-qualifiers receive $25.00 tow money.
