FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- (May 9, 2004) The Fredericktown Raceway has once again improved it's payout schedule for drivers. Effective immediately and until further notice, there will only be one payout schedule for both the Sportsmen and the Modified classes with the winning drivers receiving $500. Second place in each class will receive $350 with third earning $275, fourth $200 and fifth place $150.
The change makes the payout for the Sportsmen class the best in the region and one of the best for the Modifieds.
There was another major change made for the Sportsmen class at the Fredericktown Raceway as now all of the Allied Racing Association Sportsmen can race at the Fredericktown Raceway with no weight penalties. In other words the racers from tracks such as I-55 Raceway and Belleville can now race on Friday nights at Fredericktown without having to make any modifications to their cars. Racers from the St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington also can race at the Fredericktown Raceway without making any modifications.
"They will simply be running the same rules they run at either I-55 or at Farmington," said Fredericktown Raceway promoter Terry Flanagan.
The Fredericktown Raceway Modified class is an IMCA style class, however the UMP Modifieds are also allowed to participate if they add 50 pounds to their car and use the IMCA style tires.
"We think these simple rule changes will make for some fantastic racing," Flanagan said.
Besides the track's normal Friday night program this week, there will also be a special event on Sunday, May 16th. The Fredericktown Azalea Racefest was rained out on May 2nd and moved to the 16th. The Modifieds and the Sportsmen will both be participating in this event now even though they originally were not a part of the program. Also racing that day will be the RAMS Mini Stocks (with the Driver's Seat 25), the Pure Streets (with a 40-lap feature and $400 to win), the Dwarf cars and the Pro 4 Stocks/Hornets. For more information on any of these events contact Flanagan at (573) 783-3901 or Jeff Mills at (573) 747-0566.

I think it's awesome that Fredericktown is willing to make such a BOLD move. Any promotor that is willing to take care of its drivers (as long as they can afford it) should receive the same care back from the drivers. Hopefully Terry will see the car counts climb higher than ever before. In just 2 days, I have heard so many drivers talking about this already. I definitely think the sportsman class should thank Terry. These guys deserve a bigger purse and he is willing to put it out there for them. I also think it's great that the sportsman class will be open to drivers from other tracks who can run their same rules. That may help that class get more cars as well. Who knows, this could really heat the competition up (or at least make for some more exciting races with more cars). Hope things go well for the track.

Congratulations Matt on your feature win Friday at The Rock and Saturday at SFCR!!!

Did Matt and Billy have a good weekend or what!!! Geez!!! They've got to stop handing out with each other.... LOL.. Congrats to both of them..

just a thought

Now don't everybody go get all excited because this is JUST A THOUGHT and not meant to be sarcastic. If the sportsman car counts jumpt to let's say thirty cars on race night, is the track as a whole, meaning running a efficient show, going to be able to handle such a large car count on top of all the other classes? I guess what I'm asking is if this many cars would happen to show up we're not going to be racing at 2:00 am are we? JUST A THOUGHT!

So what you are saying is don't give the drivers good pay to keep the car count down so the show goes quicker!!!!!!!!!

I give up..... LMAO!!!

No, that's not what I'm saying! I don't have a problem with paying the drivers well or with high car counts. What I'm asking is can the show run efficiently with that many cars to get people home at a decent hour? That's all I was asking.

Honestly, I don't think Fredericktown will get 30 Sportsman cars, but I do think the better pay will increase the car count (or at least it should). Guys should be willing to race for that kind of pay in that class (if not, it's their loss). But, if the car count would get that high, I do think they could run an efficient show. They may need to invest in another scorer or two to keep things running a little faster and smoother. The races were over early Friday night (and that was with an intermission). Sure, it may run late a night here and there, but what track doesn't? That's part of racing. I hope all the Sportsman guys decide to run Fredericktown. It would be great to see more cars and more competition. Good luck to all!!!

Yeah, Millsey, Matt and Billy did have a great weekend, both winning Friday and Saturday night. You don't think they celebrated, do ya? No chance those two will stop hanging out with each other anytime soon.

Money's ruined the sport make all the classes trophy classes only. Look at the Pro 4's at I55, they don't race for money and have 23 cars show up.

Money it the root of all evil, now I have to go to work so I can earn some evil for this weekend.

Faithfulfan, thanks for your input. I wasn't trying to bash Fredricktown. I understand that occasionally all tracks run late, just was curious if they had the people to handle a large field of cars. Why don't you think they wouldn't be able to draw thirty sportsman?

Crazyfan,I don't have a reason for thinking they won't draw 30 cars. It's just a feeling I have. Most tracks (even I-55) don't draw 30 sportsman cars on a regular basis. There are other tracks that race on Friday night that may take a few of the cars that could come to Fredericktown. They don't even draw 30 modifieds on a regular basis. Like I said before, though, it would be great to see both classes grow to a larger car count. I know you weren't bashing, you were just asking.

We usually get between 23 and 30 sportsman on average at Pevely with about 30 or so modifieds each week. Not bad numbers. I think the new rule with the weight in regards to the allied sportsman will attract a few to Fredricktown that race at Pevely. I think it was a good decision made by the track owner.

Millsey is kinda like the ROC always cooking up something  LOL!!!
He's the busiest person in the 3rd world :) ;) And does a darn GOOD job at it.
