St. Louis Region SCCA Elects Officers and Signs Deal with Gateway International

January 3, 2004 (St. Louis, MO) - The St. Louis Region, Sports Car Club of America recently held their annual election of officers and signed a deal for four road races at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL.

Five-time national Solo II (or autocross) champion Janice Rick was re-elected to head the Region as its Regional Executive (or R.E.). A purchasing manager for Environmental Restoration LLC, her organizational talents have helped to refine and develop the multi-faceted activities and events hosted by the racing, solo, road rally, rallycross, and performance rally segments of the Region.

Also re-elected was Cesare Venegoni as Assistant R.E. After an absence of 20 years Carol Cohn returns to the board as Secretary.

Newly elected as Treasurer is Matt Gegen. Joining Gegen as newly elected to the board are at-large members Tim Finley, Dan Turpin, and Curt Faigle. Their terms all expire in 2005. Remaining at-large members are Kim DeMotte and Dave Whitworth whose terms expire in 2004.

The Region members are excited about the new contract recently signed with Gateway International Raceway to bring four SCCA road racing weekends to their 1.6 mile road course. The Driver's School/Regional weekend is March 26-28, followed by two Regional/National/IT Tour events on May 1-2 and July 31-August 1 with the final weekend a Double Regional October 30-31.

In addition to hosting the club's four race dates, Gateway is offering Region members the opportunity to buy discounted tickets to their major events in 2004, the NASCAR Busch Series May 7-8, the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals June 25-27, the Dodge Ram Tough 200 NASCAR Truck event July 16-17, and the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series August 20-22.

"Gateway is expanding and we're thrilled they are including a wide range of organizations and corporations in the opportunity to provide added benefits to their members or employees", said Rick. "We're looking forward to the fun we have competing at the facility, the convenience of it being close to home, and now the addition to enjoy the variety of motorsports competition they offer on their oval track and drag strip."

St. Louis Region is geared up to host the ClubRally National Championships (CRNC) February 20-21 in Salem, MO, four road races, 14 Solo II events, 4 rallycrosses, and 6 road rallies in addition to supporting several charitable organizations in 2004. Those who received help from the Region in 2003 were the Arthritis Foundation, the USO, UNICEF, and the St. Ann (MO) D.A.R.E. program.
