Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2018) - Trey Starks came up only one spot shy of making the Tuscarora 50 main event last Sunday at Port Royal Speedway, where rain wiped out the preliminary night on Friday before postponing Saturday's finale a day.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver kicked off the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event by qualifying 17th quickest in his group. He then advanced from sixth into the third-and-final lock-in position to the main event before a late-race incident in his heat race.

"We had some really bad luck," Starks said. "We had some things break that don't normally break. We had a little fortune at first in our heat to gain us positions. We were able to work our way from sixth to third, but we had an ignition problem coming to the white flag."

Starks dramatically slowed in turn four coming to the white flag. He was credited with a fifth-place finish in the heat following the problem. That relegated him to the 10th starting position in the Last Chance Showdown.

"On the second lap we ended up losing brakes," he said. "That hurt us pretty bad. We worked our way to fifth and had a really fast race car. We needed it to be a 15-lap B Main because we were really fast and headed to the front. We just needed more time."

Starks maneuvered to a fifth-place finish, which was one position out of transferring into the A Main.

"I was happy to have a fast car despite all of our bad luck," he said. "It's a shame we ended up one spot short."

Starks is heading south to race this Thursday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the World of Outlaws World Finals with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "We're usually fast there. We set quick time during qualifying last year and led feature laps in 2015. I think if we do what we normally do we'll be all right."
