(FRANKLIN, INDIANA) The Steve Barnett Racing team will have a busy week, as they will tackle two UMP Summernationals events and an O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series event. Steve’s week will kick off on Wednesday, July 6 when the grueling UMP Summernationals Series rolls into the Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, Indiana. “The Franklin Flyer” will then travel with the series to the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana the following evening. Both UMP Summernationals shows will pay $6,000 to the winner. You can learn more about the series by visiting www.umpracing.com.

Steve will take Friday off before traveling to the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Kentucky on Saturday, July 9. The O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series will sanction the 7th Annual ‘Kentuckiana Klash.’ A $3,000 payday is up for grabs for the winner of the event Saturday on the 1/2-mile, high-banked Kentucky oval. The Franklin, Indiana based team competed in a pair of events over the 4th of July holiday weekend. Steve’s weekend started out great as he brought home a third place finish on Friday night at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky. Steve was battling for the lead before a right front body brace broke off late in the $2,000 to win event, which caused the nose flap to get into the tire on his J.D. Byrider / Tony Stewart Motorsports entry. The team then traveled to the Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, Indiana for a $1,200 tune-up event for this week’s UMP Summernationals race. Steve was involved in a first lap incident at Vernon, which relegated him to a disappointing nineteenth place finish.

“It was a decent weekend for us,” stated the current Northern AllStar Late Model Series point leader. “Aside from a couple of unfortunate things, we had a very strong car. I was battling for the lead at Ponderosa until a body brace broke on the right front. With the nose flap in my right front tire, the car just kept getting tighter and tighter. Then at Twin Cities, we probably had a top three car there. We just got caught up in a first lap wreck, but that is how things go sometime. I am real pleased with how our car is performing right now; hopefully we can reel off some strong runs this week.”
