<b>STEVE FRANCIS RETURNS TO DIRT LATE MODEL COMPETITION THIS WEEKEND AT COLUMBUS SPEEDWAY FOR THE “JAMES KING MEMORIAL” </b>
(Ashland, KY) After a seven week break in dirt late model racing action, Steve Francis and the Mopar Performance/Valvoline/Rocket Chassis team will travel this weekend, April 4th-5th to Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS for the $11,000 to win James King Memorial unsanctioned event. This will be Francis’ first visit to 3/10 high banked clay oval of Columbus Speedway since 1991.
Steve is coming off a successful string of finishes during Speedweeks 2003 in Florida including his first feature win of the season. Francis rallied his M15 Mopar Performance/Valvoline sponsored Rocket Chassis Dodge Intrepid to 9 top-10 and 6 top-5 finishes with a win coming in the very first night of competition during Speedweeks in the Renegade Dirt Car Series event at East Bay Raceway for a $5,000 pay day.
The Kentucky Colonel and the Mopar Performance/Valvoline Rocket Chassis team will be running the full Xtreme Dirt Car Series schedule this season in efforts to win the XDCS championship title. This would make Francis the only driver in dirt late model history to win titles on both the XDCS (former UDTRA) and the Renegade Dirt Car Series (former STARS Series), where Steve has claimed three consecutive championship trophies. The 2003 schedule for Francis will also make stops on several United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) Summernational events as well as dates with the Renegade Dirt Car Series. Steve will also be pursuing the big money events this season with visits to the World 100, the Dream, and the Show Me 100.
“We have taken the month of March off to give the crew some time with their families, and this also gives us an opportunity to prepare for the coming months,” states Francis from his race shop in Ashland, KY. “Last year, we only ran around 60 or so events, and this season, we are aiming too compete around 70 or 80.”
