Steve Hillard, the Sadorus Sensation of Sadorus, Illinois rolled into victory lane on Friday night at the Farmer City Raceway among a mixed reception which for the most part resembled that which would be expected had Sadaam Hussein just been introduced. Judging by the crowd reaction, Hillard received an approval rating similar to that of President George W. Bush.

With the highest car count thus far during the 2006 Summer Nationals with 57 competitors on hand, Hillard took the checkers in what had appeared would be an otherwise uneventful race in which Darren Miller had led from wire to "almost" wire. On a track surface that took rubber in the A-main event, the event had seen mostly follow the leader action until that all changed on the last lap.

Entering turn 2 after taking the white flag, race long leader Darren Miller who had seemed to be headed for a $10,000.00 payday and Hillard got together and made contact which got Miller out of shape and relegated him to a 7th place finish while Hillard took the checkered flag ahead of Wes Steidinger, Kevin Weaver, Shannon Babb, Matt Taylor, Dan Schlieper, Miller, Wendell Wallace, Brian Shirley and Jeep Van Wormer rounding out the top 10.

Hillard had earlier started the evening off by turning the fast time with a lap of 13.261.

The six heat races were won by Steidinger over Taylor, Steve Sheppard, Jr. over Shirley, Hillard over Babb, Weaver over Van Wormer, Joe Harlan over Billy Drake and Miller over Schlieper.

The trophy dash was topped by Miller ahead of Steidinger, Hillard, Weaver, Harlan and Sheppard, Jr.

Consi action would add 6 more to the main extravaganza as Mike Mullvain won the first consi over Jack Sullivan, Wallace won the second over Scott James and Ryan Dauber won the third over Eric Smith.

The UMP traveling contingent rolls into the Storm Pay.com Clarksville Speedway this evening for a $10,000.00 to win 40 lap A-Main event as William and Tammy Scogin roll out the welcome mat to the traveling group and prepare to offer up some Southern hospitality.
