I was given the green light to pursue a project car. I have decided to create a Street Legal Late Model. I know it would be considered a recreational car but can anyone give advice as to what direction to go on this. I have lots of ideas floating around, but always welcome other folks input.

in the january 2011 issue of circle track magazine the just posted an article in that issue of a strret legal sprint car!! u might get that issue it might be able to help you a little!

thank you sir. I know at one time...Jimmy posted a pic of a street legal modified. Can't find it anywhere.

one thing i would do, is title it as an older car.. like something in the 70's... that will get you around any type of emissions inspections... even if it means buying a junker(w/title) and using the title as that car.

I have lots of questions regarding that...I don't want to get a ticket for a rumbling exhaust.

Something ive kinda thought about too. Get an old outdated car and make her street legal. Not much money involved in it and look really cool going down the road...lol. Good luck. Really cool idea

it has already been done.
A former late model driver Bob Hiller from Sedalia area built one a couple years ago.
It is the D.A.R.E. car
It is fully street legal, with lights, titled and everything. He did a great job creating it.

I saw this also....I have a chassis in mind. I want to have a professional hang the body. Can anyone recommend somebody to do body and graphics??

rsz_10-31-10_027.jpgrsz_10-31-10_028.jpgI am currently in the process of building a street legal two seater modified. I have all of the information regarding making it legal in Illinois. In a nutshell, there are different classifications for what you want to build. I am going the "Start with a titled car" route. I bought a 96 Mercury and Marquis with a blown motor, Let the fire dept cut it up. Tore it down to bare frame, and started fabricating. There are ways to start with just metal, and no title, but I need to read up on it. In Illinois they require windshild wipers, emergency brake, Lights, things you just don't associate with a stockcar.
Also you need the VIN off of the car that donates the motor, and trans.
I'll try to post a pic of what I have done so far. I don't have a tubing bender, or a notcher, so I'm having someone build the rollcage.
Good luck
Adam
