Pretty easy, but I thought a lot of you would find it interesting.

What 2 time UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals Champion races weekly in the St. Louis area??

I told you it was easy..

Yes, it is Rick Standridge... I'm not sure a lot of people know he won 2 Summer Nationals Titles!

When did he win the second one? The history page on The Hell Tour Web site has him winning it in 89 but no other time.

Midstate Raceway in Mt. Olive IL???? Never heard of it. When did it shut down, and where was it in Mt. Olive? Moyer won there in '87 it says.

Midstate Raceway was just off I-55 at the 44 exit, normally called White City....yes, you could see the lights from the interstate through the trees....

ahhhh....Summernationals trivia and controversies...

1992 Champion John Gill might take offense to having Bob Pierce listed as champ now.... John was the 1992 Champ then, and if you look around at some of the shirts UMP put out, even THEY listed him as champ....

another trivia question.... who was the ONLY driver to ever win a Summernationals race even though he was two laps down to the leader when they gave him the checkers? (Jamie Hall knows the answer).....so do Tom Rients and John Gill......lol

Thanks Jimmy for posting the updated history....interesting, very interesting....I'm gonna have to check it out again when I have more time....thanks again from someone who has been around since before UMP....

Good.... kinda nice to know that after all these years, there WAS someone else there that night!!!!

As part of that, the full bodied late models did not race there regularly back in 1989, and the scorers simply were not familiar with the cars.... and there were 3.... count them.... 3 red cars number 6 all painted the same.... the next year for the summernationals, (I am pretty sure) that the Track Enterprises team came in to run the show, or at least the scorers were brought in.... I might very well get corrected on that one....lol
That night was also the only time I saw Tom Rients dragged out of his race car and a fight did NOT ensue with the dragger...(?) .... John Gill....

My best guess to Racenut's question is Rick Aukland

Rick was telling me one night that he won a race he didn't even finish.... seems he was running second (last) as one of only two cars left running, Rick broke right after the white flag, the other guy got the checkers, and was light at the scale, they pushed Rick onto the scales and awarded him the win....I think that was in North Dakota?

There used to be a good website that showed arial views of all types of tracks in the United States. It had a good arial photo of the White City track and you could see I-55 running to the east of the track. I wish I could find that site again. It showed tracks that some of the old timers at work used to talk about that I never knew existed like Sandoval, Nashville and even a track in Breese at one time.

I know that but mike wallace never won a summer nationals race at pevely.[/QUOhttp
