Quincy, Ill. (June 6, 2007) – Matt Sutton scored his first Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders A-feature win of
2007 as he held off Brian Hetrick and Rager Phillips over the final 15 laps to earn his fourth-career win.
Sutton inherited the lead when early leader Gabe Maycock made contact with a lapped car and spun from the lead.

“It feels kinda like where we left off from last year,” said Sutton. “Chris had the car dialed in and Olson Brothers had the motor great. So far so good. It was a pretty good points night.”

Attrition plagued the 20-car field before the opening lap was completed as four cars were eliminated in various incidents. Matt Rogerson spun on the initial start. Lance Gullo and Kaley Gharst came together on the second attempt that ended with Gullo on his head.

When racing finally got underway, Gabe Maycock was the early front-runner from his pole-starting position.
The Middletown, Missouri, driver swapped the lead with Brian Hetrick throughout the first ten laps.

“We’re running better,” said Hetrick, driver of the Sebastian Sandblasting / Gap’s Automotive / Hetrick Daycare / Gustaf / Maxim. “I think the 305 thing at Burlington’s helping us a little bit. We enjoyed running tonight…We got a little bit loose and I probably should’ve moved my wing back a little bit more. The car went away at the end.” Hetrick’s third-place effort was his best of the season.

Maycock’s bid for the win ended in disappointment as Sutton began to put on the pressure when the leaders entered lapped traffic. Maycock dove to the inside of Bart Andrews on lap 10 but ran out of room and spun his Korte Transportation-sprinter to avoid taking out both cars. Maycock restarted from the tail and came home sixth.

The final caution of the night was for leading rookie candidate Jordan Goldesberry as a shower of sparks followed his Goldesberry Signs & Designs / Eagle down the back straightaway with torque-tube failure. The 16-year old had been running in the top five before the problem.

After the restart, Rager Phillips found the high line to his liking as he drove by Hetrick for the runner-up position. That is where Phillips would stay for the balance of the 25-lapper.

“We loosed the car up a lot and we were able to zing around the top,” Phillips commented. “We didn’t have quite a fast enough car to get by Sutton, there, but we were fast enough to get by everybody else. I wanted to try the bottom, but everybody else was kind of cycling around there…I couldn’t get in (to the corner) really good and that’s where everybody took off from me. But it was a good car all around.”

Rogerson battled back from his opening lap tangle to earn KSE Racing Products Hard Charger honors in fourth, while Chris Urish rounded out the top five.
Maycock, Korey Weyant, Josh Schneiderman, Jimmy Davies, and Bart Andrews completed the top 10.

The next event is at Lee County Speedway on Wednesday, June 27.
