Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 4, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region ventures into the state of Wyoming for the first time this season with this Saturday night's event at Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs.
And Saturday night's event will go a long way in sorting out the series championship points race after opening the season with three events in Kansas and Nebraska.
The high-banked, 3/8-mile Sweetwater Speedway clay oval has also proven to offer up a wide variety of winners in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region competition over the past five years, with eight different drivers posting wins in nine events since 2002.
The only driver to post multiple wins at Rock Springs is South Dakota's Randi Miller, who swept both 2003 events en route to the series title.
Other winners include Mike Dreiling and Jason Martin in 2002, Nick Haygood in 2004, Patrick Bourke and Eric Miller in 2005 and Danny Horner and Keith Rauch in 2006.
Bourke, Rauch and Haygood are among the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region championship contenders expected on Saturday night. Bourke, the reigning series champion, is currently ranked seventh in points, just 20 markers ahead of 2004 champion Rauch.
Saturday's action goes green at 7:00 p.m.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
