McCool Junction, NE – Kevin Swindell of Germantown, TN driving the Cruz Pedregon Advance Auto Parts Spike/Toyota midget, won the 30 lap O’Reilly POWRi presented by Lucas Oil Cornhusker Midget Challenge preliminary event. Chad Boat of Phoenix, AZ started on the pole and led the first 6 laps before a yellow for the stalled car of Scott Hatton of Roscoe, IL would bunch the field. Dave Darland of Lincoln, IN who started on the outside front row took advantage of the restart and passed Boat going into turn 1. Darland would hold the point riding the cushion while Swindell who started 6th worked his way around Avon, Indiana’s Brad Kuhn on lap 12 and then around Boat on lap 16 to give chase. Swindell followed Darland on the cushion for the next 10 laps. On lap 27, Swindell put a slide job on Darland in turn 2 and pull away leading the final 4 laps for the victory. Following Swindell and Darland at the line was Boat, Kuhn and Davey Ray of Loves Park, IL.
The top 4 finishers which included, Swindell, Darland, Boat and Kuhn are locked into the Wednesday night Championship Cornhusker Midget Challenge event paying $5,000 to the winner. Heat race winners were Matt Smith, Jerry Coons, Jr., Brad Kuhn, and Kevin Swindell. Kody Swanson would win the 12 lap semi feature.
