I Remember Rick Johnson in Doc Kapp's cars, Alvin Nolls Black with Lime green bottom "days of thunder"car, John Pate, "The flyin plumber", Steve Bovinette (sp?) Mark, Oscar, and Marvin Frey, Dashing DJ and Brett Cygan, Leon Redbone, and Allan Rakers, Todd Rehg, Todd and Terry Isaak, Allan Geiseking, Terry Crump, Brian Bielong, Roger Fohne, Milo Decker, Doc Koch, Slammin Sam Castiller, Marty Yates, Danny Hesenhauer, just to name a few. For some reason I have a distinct memory of the street stock that ran in and around the 90's. Even now when I see a Cygan or Rick J or a Brian B in a different class, my mind always pictures their street stocks of old LOL. I see Tiny Dorries at the Restaurant here in Aviston several times a week, and it's almost like walking back in time. I can still see him holding the announcers mic.
Remember when there was only three classes? People "made" racecars? You didn't order a part from the net, you went to speedway salvage and took it off a car yourself.

Going way back, but remember my parents taking me to the Davis Crossing racetrack Mo. where Ken Buckly ruled with a 6 cyl. chevy(flathead fords and 6 cyl. chevys back then) and going to Potosi track where Donnie Klein usually won in his cut down Model A.

Steve Bovinette (sp?)........wow was his car loud some years. sounded like a dang bumble bee...#16 if i remember right? and ya talk about making chassis. i know one year jerry schmitt and bo smith made one and combined their last names to name the chassis.....smitt chassis

tri city 1979 my big bro Louie Tettaton blue 67 chevelle #75 hit the wall head on off turn 4 flipped end over end .engine and trans rolled almost to turn one !right front tire was pushed up in to the fire wall !

The Boeser brothers,Moe Huegen,Brian Schrage,Brian Wernle,Gary Grapperhaus,Jason Jenne,Tony Frazier,John Southard....:)

I grew up at Highland, and I don't ever really remember missing a race. Favorite driver was Rick Kloos. I remember Mark Faust, Dennis Sellers, Ron Sensel, Todd Rehg (sp?), Lumpy Lowry, Frankie Martin (in the 125), Mark Oller in a bomber (I have a pic somewhere), and "Neon" Leon Rakers. My favorite part of the night used to be the brake checks for the bombers. I, too remember the yearly quarter midget giveaway for jr fan club.

My favorite race (hands down) was always the WoO sprint show at Granite on the half mile. My uncle used to own a Car Quest on 50 in O'Fallon and we always got tickets to the race and got to go to the hospitality tent. I recall watching cars flip over the back wall and back onto the track. Steve Kinser and Doug Wolfgang were always my favorites.

White City

I remember seeing Larry Phillips,Gary Webb,Ray Guss Jr.,Billy Moyer and Mike Wallace all race there. Bill Patton,Wes Weinmann,Rick Rhodes,Mike Null Jr. raced Super Streets/Sportsman...:)

i remember a WoO race at tcs ,kinser won, after he got the trophy (i was push trucking)we pushed him back to his pit,,he climbed out of his car and took a quick drink, then sat on the rr tire and started to sign autographs for a long line if fans,,

Seeing my first race with my dad at tri city, cc corbin & wib spaulding and later Mike Wallace, Ken Schrader & Kevin Gundaker. But most of my time was spent at highland i still remember those standing starts! And yes fireball i remember that night at the pepsi nationals! 2 classes of cars at highland and most of them hand built. thanks for this thread it caused me to remember the "old days"

I remember the grudge matches at bell clair between Klein-Moser and Klein-Hammerle. I also remember a yellow car that had an automatic tranny at pevely, I think his name was Bo Bo Bob Nelson, I could be wrong tho, that was awhile ago

Anyone remember the night at Highland when Kevin Prott (SP?) flipped on the front straight-a-way by the flag stand? That was a nasty flip. He got pretty high in the air!

Yep,didn't he retire from driving after that and just build engines?

I remember the parade of trailers into Belle Clair after the races, the concession stand on the infield of the track, Pevely running a B feature every week for the "Bombers" that didnt make the A, and of course the top dog at either of the tracks starting 12th every night and WINNING from there!! Now this was racing, I can just hear todays top racers complaining about starting mid pack.

I've been told I've been going to the races at Highland since I was 2weeks old, I'm 44 now.

I remember the Johnny Pate vs. Cygan incident, Cygan pushed him up a little, took Pate 2 laps to recover, everyone in the crowd knew what was going to happen. Not a fan of either, but that was scary.

Another old memory, is when Mark Faust disappeared into the creek off the back stretch.

I also remember the flag man on the standing on the front stretch. & starting the races 3 wide from a dead stop.
