Adrian,Mo - A good track and great racing were just part of the 6th Annual Vern Claiborne Memorial Modified Shootout at Adrian Speedway Saturday night. A field of 26 modifieds were on hand for the $1000 to win event presented by Evolution Motorsports and Signs By Robbie.When the green flag flew for the main event it was a pair of Fort Scott,Kansas racers,Brian Hall and Andy Claiborne battling for the top spot.After several laps of side by side racing for the lead the pair made slight contact which allowed several cars to pass them.The benefactor of the hard racing was Jerry Tarwater Jr. who shot into the lead followed by the always tough Tim Setzer.These two would go at it for most of the race.Some other drivers were making their way through the field as eleventh place starter Johnny Fennewald and seventeenth place starter Chris Prussman were steadily picking off cars.
Tarwater kept a fast,steady pace to lead the field as Claiborne started to gain momentum in the late stages of the race.Breaking into second on lap 14, Claiborne tried to reel in the fleet Tarwater but had to settle for second place three car lengths back.The top two were followed by Tim Setzer in third and past race winner Johnny Fennewald in fourth.Fifth thrutenth in the feature were Brian Hall,Chad Lyle,Clint Long,Chris Prussman and Jon Parris.The In The Pits "Hard Charger" award went to South Dakota's Prussman who gained 9 spots in the "A" main after winning the "B" feature.In the street stock feature, Brian Welliver of Adrian held off all challengers for his win and Gary Newport continued his good season by winning the hard fought hobby stock feature.
