LOCUST GROVE AR. Bill Frye and Terry Phillips came into the night's O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series tied for the series point lead, and left the same way. The pair squared off like a couple of heavyweights going after the championship belt.

Frye controled the first 38 laps before Phillips put a backstretch move on Frye to take the win. Frye stayed even with Phillips in the standings by virtue of the two point bonus the polesitter gets in the airtight battle for the series championship.

Bill Frye picked up his sixth pole of the year, and had Leslie Essary to his outside. Frye and Essary raced side by side for the first two laps, with Frye getting credit for leading those laps by an eyelash. Frye finally pulled ahead coming out of turn four on the third lap. Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips, and Mike Brown made up the early top five.

Moyer moved past Essary for second in turn four on lap seven. Phillips drove past Essary for third on the backstretch on the next go-round. Mike Brown pushed past Essary for the fourth spot in turn two on lap 10. Jeff Taylor moved past Essary into fifth on lap 13.

Phillips and Moyer dueled side by side for second on lap fourteen, and that pair was closing on Frye who was moving into traffic by lap 15. Frye was facing five cars racing for position. The top three were nose to tail working the traffic. Phillips pulled even with Moyer again on lap 18, and was able to take the spot from Moyer in turn four on lap 19.

Frye picked up a couple of carlengths on Phillips, as he split a pair of slower cars on the backstretch on lap 21. Frye cleared traffic on lap 23, but Phillips followed him through, and the pair were nose to tail racing on a clear track at the moment.

Phillips moved to the high side, attempting to make the pass on Frye on lap 25, and the pair were side by side on lap 28. Jeff Taylor drove by Mike Brown to fourth on lap 29.

Frye was back into traffic on lap 32, and had a couple of carlenghts on Phillips on lap 35. Jeff Taylor improved past Moyer to third on the next lap, then Phillips and Frye were side by side on lap 37.

Phillips had been working the high side for the last half of the race, trying to pass Frye. Frye had been protecting high in the straightaways, when Phillips dove under Frye on the backstretch on lap 38. Phillips drove into turn three with the lead, and came out of four still in command as he paced the field to the white flag.

Terry Phillips lead the last lap as well, and picked up his eighth O'Reilly M.A.R.S. win of the year in a race that went 40 Laps without a caution. Bill Frye settled for second, with Jeff Taylor, Billy Moyer, and Mike Brown making up the top five. Wendell Wallace, Mike Bowers, Duke Whiseant, Leslie Essary, and Dewaine Hottinger rounded out the top ten.
