POCOLA OK. Terry Phillips scored his first pole of the 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts Mid-America Racing Series. Phillips knew exactly what to do with that prime starting position, and lead all 40 laps en route to his second win of the weekend. Phillips was also able to ease in front of Bill Frye by the thinnest of margins, two points.

Phillips and Jerry Buck shared the front row. Phillips was off with the green, with Buck, Wendell Wallace, Bryan Millican, and Mike Brown giving chase. Buck and Wallace were side by side on the second lap, and Wallace picked up the second spot in turn four on lap two. Dewaine Hottinger picked up the fifth position on lap four.

Phillips had opened a ten carlength advantage, but Wallace began to close as Phillips started to work traffic by lap eight. Phillips was into heavy traffic by lap 10, and Wallace was on Phillips' back bumper by lap 14.

Shane Essary and Bryan Millican tangled in turn four on lap 16. Millican had a top five run going, but exited the track on the hook, his night finished early.

Jerry Buck was able to shoot past Wallace on the restart, and went side by side with Phillips for the top spot before Phillips worked back to the lead. Jeff Floyd worked to fifth by lap 17, and Phillips had resumed his 10 carlength advantage by lap 19.

Floyd slipped past Hottinger for the fourth spot in turn four on lap 22, and Phillips was back into traffic by lap 24. Phillips was out to a half straight advantage, even working the traffic by lap 28. Phillips was working his way through heavy traffic by lap 30.

Bill Frye worked past Hottinger for fifth in turn four on lap 34. Frye picked up another spot, passing Floyd in the same spot on lap 35. Joey Mack slowed the action on the next go round, pulling up lame on the frontstretch on lap 36.

Jeff Floyd prevented the race from restarting as he couldn't come up to speed on the backstretch. Contact with another car put Floyd at the back of the lead lap cars.

Wendell Wallace drove around Buck for second as the race restarted. A bad crash on the frontstretch stopped the action on lap 38. Jerry Buck got turned, and made heavy contract with the frontstretch wall, collecting Charlie Randolph in the process. It took two wreckers to carry Buck's car off the track. Buck, fortunatly, was not injured in the incident.

Terry Phillips lead the last two laps after the restart in taking the win. Wendell Wallace, Bill Frye, Jeff Taylor, and Dewaine Hottinger made up the top five. Justin Fulton, Mike Brown, Jeff Floyd, Leslie Essary, and Peyton Taylor rounded out the top ten.
