Lebanon,Mo.-Watertown SD veteran driver Jon Tesch fired the loudest shot Friday night at the LebanonMidwaySpeedway as Tesch grabbed the lead early and never looked back in leading all 40 laps of the USMTS National Championship chase for the Hunt as he bested 42 other Modified Drivers from 10 different states that were on hand.
After 5 action packed heat races and 2 thrilling B features the field was narrowed down to the 25 car starting grid and Tesch redrew the pole spot with Al Henja alongside of him.On the start Tesch got the jump with Henja on his bumper with 3 wide racing behind the leaders.Jake Neal would come to a sto in turn 4 ending his night and on lap 2 a 5 car tangle involving Tommy Weder Jr,Tony Jackson Jr,Jamie Ragland,Brandon Kenney and Alan Mondus in turn 4 also collected up Bob Timms ending his night.On the restart,Tesch jumped on the field as Bryan Rowland and Henja went to battle for second place as Rowland took the spot on lap 3 and began his charge to the front.It was here that a long green run was starting and the pace began to get quicker.With Tesch leading the way and Rowland gaining ground,the race for third was tight as Henja,Johnny Bone Jr and 13th starter Zack VanderBeek were battling.Catching lap traffic,Tesch would find Rowland gaining quickly and cutting the lead to 2 cars as the yellow flew for debris around lap 19.This gave Tesch clear track and on the restart his pulled away again as Rowland was trying to keep pace.Jason Hughes was working the top groove trying to move up after moving into the top 5.On lap 24,the fina lyellow waved as Johhny Bone Jr had something let go in the rearend of the car and sent him into the turn 3 wall ending his strong run for the night.Again on the restart,Tesch proved to much as he grabbed the win with Rowland grabbing his best ever USMTS feature finish followed by Henja,VanderBeek and 8 time National champion Kelly Shryock completing the top 5 as 16 cars finished on the lead lap.
In Support class action the FactoryStocks Justin Stoufer grabbed the opening lead with Tyson Troutman close behind.On lap 2,Dusty Rhoads went to the top spot as Kenny Carroll and Derek Brown and Bob Gustin were swapping spots while point leader Tim Petty was coming from the 5th row to join the battle.Up front Rhoads,Carroll,Brown and Gustin provided 2 wide side by side racing.On lap 10,Gustin would pull off a top spot pass over the leader Rhoads but the yellow waved giving Rhoads back the top position.On the restart,the top 7 were fighting for spots as Gustin grabbed the lead on lap 12 as Carroll and Brown were exchanging spots.With on to go,Gustin made a small bobble as Carroll and Brown were trying to make a move around,but Gustin recovered to take his first win of the season and became the 10th different winner in the class this season with a photo finish for the runner-up spot as Kenny Carroll grabbed second place followed closely by Derek Brown,early leader Rhoads and point leader Tim Petty rounding out the top 5.
The SuperStock feature saw Clinton Betts grab the opening lead only to give it up to Bill Joiner on lap 2 with Larry Prewett following.Prewett would pull to the pits 2 laps later with steering problems as JC Newell moved up to challange Joiner and take over the lead on lap 5.point leader Ben Newel moved up to challange as the father and Son team ran side by side until lap 10 when Ben grabbed the top spot and recorded his 6th win of the season with JC Newell, Bill Joiner,Danny Newell and Donny Betts at the stripe.
The Bomber feature saw Rob White jump to the opening lead with Jack Hamer following close behind along with Shawn Strong and Brandon Waters.White's bid for victory ended on lap 4 as he pulled into the pits with problems.From there Strong grabbed the lead and withstood challanges from point leader Brandon Knudtson to capture his 6th win of the season as Knudtson,Brandon Waters,Hamer and Rodney Yost completed the top 5.
