The 17th Annual “Dixie Shootout” Weekend Kicks Off October for the Lucas Oil Series

LEXINGTON, KY – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series kicks off the month of October and its final five points events of the 2006 Championship campaign with a Friday night/Saturday night double-header at two of the nations most famous racing venues and one of the south’s most prestigious events. The 17th Annual Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout” Weekend will kick off Friday, October 6th at Rome International Speedway and conclude the following night Saturday, October 7th at Dixie Speedway.

On Friday Night, October 6th the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its first ever visit to the Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA for the "Rome Renegades Rumble" paying $10,000 to win.

Then on Saturday Night, October 7th it will be the 17th Annual "Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout" at the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA which will pay the winner $15,000. The cameras of SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape the "Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout" on Saturday night.

If a former Dixie Shootout winner posts a victory in both events, that driver will earn the $5,000 “Dirty Double” bonus for a possible $30,000 payday over the two nights of racing. Of the nine active former Shootout winners, six of them have combined to record 11 wins this season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Both nights at the Swims family promoted facilities will feature Comp Cams Time Trials, PBM Performance Products Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske Shocks B-Mains and 50 Lap A-Main events. While it’s a first ever visit to Rome for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series it will be the third straight "Dixie Shootout" the Series has sanctioned at the historic Woodstock, GA speed-plant. It has been the Shannon Babb show the last two years as the Moweaqua, IL driver has won the two most recent “Dixie Shootout” events.

Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL is on a quest for his second consecutive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship. Pearson who has been rolling through the month of September with wins in the "Hillbilly 100" and the "World 100" takes a 325 point lead into Rome and Dixie. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN is currently second in the points followed by Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH, Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN is the top five drivers in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN has a big lead in the "Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year" standings and is currently sixth in the overall season long points chase. Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, Michael England of Glasgow, KY and Darren Miller of Chadwick, IL round out the top ten drivers.

In 29 events this year there have been 15 different winners with a total of 579 different drivers scoring points with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt series in 2006. Scott Bloomquist leads the win parade with eight victories followed by three each for Earl Pearson, Jr. and Iowa's Brian Birkhofer. Drivers with two wins this year include Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY and Shannon Babb. Those that have one victory lane appearance with Series in '06 include, Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI, Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, Matt Miller, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Chub Frank of Bear Lake, PA, Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV, Chris Wall of Holden, LA, Darren Miller and Don O'Neal.

After the visit to the state of Georgia, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads to The Dirt Track@Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC on Wednesday Night, October 11th and the season winds up at Sherri Heckenast's Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, KY on Friday and Saturday, October 27th and 28th with back to back $10,000 to win events.

Rome International Speedway is located near Highway 411 and Highway 1 bypass at 1900 Chulio Road in Rome, GA. Advanced general admission tickets are priced at $20 with children eight years of age and younger free. Adult general admission tickets will be $5 more at gate on race day. Ages 9-17 will be $10 at gate. Dixie Speedway is located 1 mile west of I-575 or 6 miles east of I-75 on Highway 92 at 150 Dixie Drive in Woodstock, GA. Advanced reserve seats are $33 for the top two rows and $31 for rows 3-5. General admission on race day is adults $30 with ages 9-17 $10 at gate with children 8 years of age and younger free.
