THE KING IS COMING!

The James King Memorial April 1st and 2nd!
Super Late Models * $13,000 Possible to Win!

COLUMBUS, MS-The 13th annual James King Memorial at Columbus Speedway is quickly approaching. The prestigious race will be held on Friday and Saturday night April 1st and 2nd. The 2005 version will include 2 full Super Late Model shows offering the drivers and fans 2 complete nights of racing action.

The Friday night April 1st event will be a $2,000 to win and $200 to start 30 lapper. The Grand Finale will be on Saturday night April 2nd with a $10,000 to win and $400 to start 64 lap James King Memorial Championship. There will be a $1,000 "King of the Ring" bonus for the high point driver from both nights making for a $13,000 possible to win weekend.

The James King Memorial has been a "crown jewel" of Mississippi racing since the inaugural running of the event in 1993, won by Bill Frye. Other champions of the prestigious event include Wendell Wallace (1994), Mike Head (1995), Johnny Stokes (1996), Donnie Barnhart (1997), Robbie Starnes (1998), Freddy Smith (1999, 2003), James Cline (2000), Billy Moyer (2001), Don O'Neal (2002), and 2004 winner and defending champion Dale McDowell. Smith is the only driver in the 12-year history of the event to win more than once.

Several regional drivers are expected to be defending the "home turf", and these drivers make winning big events at Columbus Speedway no walk in the park when the superstars comw to town. Regional stars who have had great starts to 2005 include David Earl Gentry, David Breazeale, Chris Wall, and Mike Boland. Also, it would be folly to count out Columbus Speedway track record holder and numerous big-event winner Anthony Rushing as a contender for the James King Memorial crown.

Local divisions will also compete in the traditional James King Memorial Championships, with Open-Wheel Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, and Street Stocks running complete shows both Friday and Saturday night. Also, Two-Person Cruisers will run a feature on Friday night, and Mini Stocks will be in action on Saturday night.

There will be an open practice session on Thursday night March 31st from 7pm until 10pm.

Columbus Speedway will be in action this Saturday March 26th with a 25-lap main event for the Rebel Challenge Super Late Model Weekly Racing Series.
