The MD3 Modified nose

Nobody has said how much this nose costs, but I'd be willing to bet I could make 10 mod noses out of aluminum for the same price of one of these. Aerodynamics? I don't see where this nose would make that much difference, but it does look cool. Lizard, you want to know when the spending will stop? It will when people refuse to pay for useless high dollar stuff.

Darkstar44, your were right....at $150 each stated above I bet a guy could make 10, at least the smaller ones.

Unfortunately, it seems there are always somebody willing to over spend in this sport we all love so much.

ten aluminum noses for $150? I think either your math is off, you have the worlds smallest aluminum nose piece, or you get your aluminum cheaper than any of the rest of us.

Why is everyone so worried about a guy spending $150 on something that you say won't be an advantage.....I'd be more concerned about a guy spending add'l money on parts that do give an advantage.

The cars are just not going fast enough for anyone to gain any significant aero advantage with the basic framework of the current body rules. Loadings from this sort of thing increase roughly geometrically so in other words if the speed doubles the force increases by about 4X. This means that if some body part has an effect at say 150mph it will have to be about 4X larger to have the same or similar effect at 75mph. Think back to the 1984 wedge late model era. That's how far you'd have to go to have any significance at these speeds and that would be absurd as well as unlikely.

With that said should something like Steve Edgecrombe's Sportsman hood design as an example be ruled illegal? See how he's trying to get the carburetor air intake into an area of high pressure? That's pretty cool and it shouldn't be against any rules.

JMO but I believe aero helps regardless of the speeds. Case in point, stand up in the back of a pickup going lets say 20 mph,not bad, now hold a sheet of plywood up in front of you and pick yourself up off the road. Maybe I'm the crazy one LOL!

Yes intake but compare those forces to the forces acting on a racing car and you'll find them to be minuscule.

As I said, no one had mentioned price before I posted so I stand corrected. It seems I could only make 5 or 6 aluminun noses for the same price. But, I agree with Dave34. If you got it, spend it.

i saw this on facebook; i am not sure who's car it is, but i think i will pass on it. md3mod.jpg

I guess that will hide your bumper completely too. I thinks its ugly and too expensive. 160 in speedway. But they'll sell a ton.

Whats a 4x10 sheet cost these days, $45? Three noses per sheet?

How does the radiator fan affect the down force of a nose design when speeds are not fast enough to build up air in front of the radiator?

I think ours looks good and will save us a lot of time takin the aluminum noseeice off every week to to fix it. And really 150 bucks is to expensive buy a lm nose and how many of you replying to this have a car or have money in 1 I think I've counted 4 so why do the rest of you care if you don't like it don't buy it,I was really looking forward to the aero advantage we would have at belleville when we usually run 30 mph features, there is a lot of other areas in this mod class that needs to be looked at other than this
