Condolences to Dave Hampton's family and Ray Walsh's crew
I was very stunned and very upset to hear about Dave's death today. He is one of the biggest sweethearts I've ever met. Had a lot of fun with him at the Christmas party. I am so sorry.
Dave will be sorely missed. He was dedicated, hard working racer who was
always fun to be around. He had a huge heart and a fun loving spirit. I first
met Dave when he was working on Gilbert Kinder's #44 modified, driven by
Jake Seets. He went on to help Ray Walsh race to many wins and
championships. Dave and his son Dusty were great sprint car fans.
Sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family and the Walsh Racing team. I don't think there was a nicer guy out there. I am glad I got to see to him at Ray's Christmas Party.
Being my uncle i spent alot of time with the guy when i was younger. He took me to alot of dirt track races. He is the reason i wanted to run in the dirt this year instead of drag racing. It really hasnt set in yet but the more i type the more it sets in.
I got to know Dave at the sprint car races. He would come to Farmington and help turn wrenches while Dusty worked hard to keep the car clean. He was always smiling and fun to be around.
God's Speed Dave, you will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave's family during this time. He will be truly missed. If there is anything that we can do let us know. Ray and Michele Wagner and family.
I sorta knew Dave since he was a mechanic..and so am I. Bumped into him plenty of times here and there. Seen him plenty of times at the races and seemed like a really nice guy. Always had a good conversation with him and he was very likeable. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family as well as all of his friends.
Never met the guy but just like him and racin90 I also am a mechanic and not only is it a loss to his friends and family he also will be missed in racing. Many thoughts and prayers to him and his family and friends.
I knew Dave through our friendship with Ray Walsh and his crew. Dave was such a vital part of that crew; he was always at the races helping out his team. Dave was known for his laugh, a deep guttural "hahaha" type of laugh that made you giggle to hear it. I used to mimic him and try to recreate his laugh for him, which made him laugh even more. It was one of the things we always did after the races at Pevely. [Sorry Fuzzy and Tim, but Dave was my favorite Walsh pit crew guy!] He was so nice and always talked to me no matter what else was going on. He took a great interest in Jimmy and counseled him on not only racing but life in general. A better man than Dave would be hard to find. The news of his passing is just so difficult to comprehend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave's family and friends at this difficult time.
When Jimmy called me to tell me about Dave, I was really shocked at what happened. I knew Dave from Rays team, but also he was a union steward like myself with the Machinist Union. I'll miss not seeing him at the union meetings and at the racetrack. Dave you will be missed. Randy Haukap
What sad news.....My daughter used to go to school with Dave's daughter Shannon, and they became pretty good friends. She still comes over to visit us whenever she gets back up this way. I hadn't seen Dave in a long time, but I will always remember how friendly he was, he always used to come by and see us in the pits. I'm sure God has a special place reserved for Dave in heaven, he was just good people. We will keep his family and friends in our prayers!
