(Warrensburg, MO) Last weekend's racing has resulted in some very tight battles in the point standings heading into week seven of the championship season at CMS. If the 'Mighty' Modified feature finish from last week is any indication of how the final points battle is going to end up, fans are in for a wire-to-wire battle right through the final week of racing in September. This Saturday, June 6th is another regular weekly race program at the speedway with the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, and B-Modifieds.

Looking at the battle for the Modified championship there is a tie for first place between two-time and defending track champion, Aaron Marrant of Orrick, MO and Tim Karrick of Basehor, KS. Karrick is a multiple-time feature winner at CMS as is Marrant; however, he has yet to claim a track championship on the tight quarters of CMS. Last week's winner of one of the closest finishes ever at CMS, 'Movin' Dave Meyer, sits just six points behind the lead duo in third position. Also close in the running is Warrensburg driver James McMillin, Odessa hot shoe Jim Moody and Concordia's Jason Thompson. With such a deeply talented pool of modified drivers at CMS, and the excitement of what drivers may drop in, the fierce competition is sure to continue this weekend at the home of the 'Mighty' Modifieds.

Over in the Late Model division, two-time track champion Kevin 'the Kid' Coyne leads the way. Although Coyne has yet to claim a feature victory, his consistency has paid dividends and has allowed him to take the early season lead. A recent newcomer to late model racing holds down the second position as Jefferson City, MO racer Robbie Test, son of last week's feature winner Bob Test, sits just eight points behind Coyne in second place. Robbie is also the current overall ULMA points leader; late models at CMS compete under the ULMA sanction and rules banner. Tied with Test for second is Excelsior Spring's Randy Ainsworth, who is coming off a best-ever finish at CMS last week with a second place feature event finish. Defending track champion Jon Binning of Warrensburg, MO has steadily shown improvement over the past few weeks and has risen to fourth. A.L. Barbour from California, MO has also run consistently this year and holds down the fifth spot in the standings. There has yet to be a repeat winner in the late model division.

In the Street Stock division, Brian 'Back in Black' Johnson of Independence, MO holds down the top spot fresh off his second main-event win, which occurred last weekend. Johnson's narrow 24-point lead is the largest lead any driver has sitting atop the standings so far in 2009. Kingsville, MO driver Michael Mullins has quietly maintained consistency with top five and top ten finishes and as a result occupies the second position just in front of last year's track champion, Nic Bennett of Oak Grove in third. Only 50 points out is two-time feature winner so far this year Chad Eickleberry of Warrensburg in fourth with John Ebert of Bates City, MO occupying fifth. The competitors take the hunt for the championship into week seven this Saturday night.

If you are a B-Modified racer, under the age of 24, more than likely you are in the running for the B-Mod crown this year at CMS. The future of racing is in fine hands with this talented young pool of drivers as they continue to impress each week. The only two-time feature winner so far this year is Oak Grove, MO driver Jacob Ebert and he holds a 22-point lead in first place over his nearest competitor, who just happens to be Ethan Isaacs of Bonner Springs, KS, last week's feature winner. Ethan drove a very impressive race last week and methodically worked his way to the point like a seasoned veteran. One of the 'seasoned veterans' occupies the third position with Brian 'Ziggy' Ziegler right in the thick of the battle. Bryan Montgomery, of Oak Grove, MO resides in the fourth spot just ten points behind Ziegler and former feature race winner Chris Brockway of Warrensburg, MO currently holds down fifth heading into this weekend's racing.

If you have not been out to CMS this year or in a while, you owe it to yourself to pay the track a visit and enjoy a fast-paced night of racing where the action is always close, the race program moves along swiftly, and where you will always find a friendly face. Drivers will not have to worry about extra fees being charged for tracking devices, more importantly drivers receive cash payouts at the end of the night upon completion of the racing action. The competition is always fierce, there are no track favorites, and track officials enforce the rulebook in the same manner for every competitor.

CMS is located 3.5-miles north of Warrensburg, MO from the junction of Highways 50 and 13 in Warrensburg or from the Higginsville exit off of I-70, travel south on Highway 13 for approximately 14 miles.
