BROWNSTOWN, IN (September 24, 2010) – Tim Roberts of Columbus, IN ended the 2010 UMP Pure Stock points season at Brownstown Speedway on Friday Night in grand fashion as he captured the main event and the track title in the division. Roberts led all the way in taking his second main event of the year and in doing so clinched his first track championship in the UMP Pure Stock class. Roberts in the Gator’s Garage, Brown’s Auto and Equipment Repair, The Rod Shop, Jimmie’s Motor Service, Sign 1 Graphix, Team Roberts Racing and Dirty Motorsports sponsored #123 to the victory over Aaron Fields of Seymour, IN, Danny Hupp of Scipio, IN, Josh Phelps of North Vernon, IN and Donnie Wilson of North Vernon, IN.
Roberts took the lead at the start of the main event as he entered the final point’s race of the season second in points to North Vernon’s Cody Vanosdol. Vanosdol ran second to Roberts and was closing on the race leader, when his car started to smoke badly.
Vanosdol, who entered the weekend as the division’s points leader based on the strength of his four wins at Brownstown this year saw his chance for the track title in the UMP Pure Stock class end at the halfway mark as he pulled his car to the infield ending his hopes for not only the feature win, but the points title as well.
With Vanosdol sitting dejectedly in the infield, Fields, who had just won the UMP Bomber feature minutes before came all the way from his 14th starting spot to take second in what turned out to be quite a race for second place behind Roberts.
The race for second was a hotly contested one as Fields got around both Phelps and Huff near the end of the race to take second. Roberts would cruise on to take the victory and wrap up the championship by seven points after coming in to the race, 25 points behind Vanosdol.
Completing the top ten were; Mickey Hines of Scipio, IN; Bobby Johnson of Columbus, IN; Willie Sallee of Columbus, IN; Brent Howard of North Vernon, IN; and Cody Vanosdol of North Vernon, IN.
