Tips Needed for Building 1962 Mercury Derby Car

I bought a 1962 Mercury Monterey for a demolition derby car for next season, and I'm not very sure what to do for some parts of it. I know that the rear ends are the toughest part of the car, and that the front ends are weak. I will be building this car to DDOT rules, and will be running a 5.0 converted from fuel injection to carburetor. I have been told to find some Chrysler bumpers and weld the brackets to the frame, but other than that I don't know what I can do to build up the front end, since that is my weak spot and the tie rods like to bend. Any tips on how to build an early 60's Ford are appreciated. Thanks!
