Tire Dope

So, is this blue chemical that is obviously on your tires at the end of the race "UMP Approved" when your tire sample gets to the lab?

Windex doesn't do anything for a tire. If I'm not mistaken, Hoosier has it listed as a recommended bead mounting lubricant on their website.

I gotta agree with griffaw. But then again, who could argue with his results

Rusty was sponsored by nic giesking and he was the man behind jimmy d post last year. I'm sure nic wasn't just on as a sponsor to get his name out there.

Tire prep was here before Rusty, and will be long after him and I. I did sponsor Rusty a couple years ago but he wouldn't let me prep his tires and I respected that and didn't. I wasn't going to comment because I knew if I did then this thread would turn into a 20 page witch hunt, but what the heck let's have some fun and earn Jimmy sone money for the site that supports the sport we all love in our area.

Let me guess you didnt prep Hancocks tires either? How would Rusty or Tim even know you did em cause you say its undetected? Maybe Rusty and Tim did there little dance on the front straightway cause they thought one of em got the better tire from ya Bahahaha..

Some of it works real well and is undetectable like the stuff I use it's the same thing they treat raisins with.

bet them tires taste like crap, at i55 they use to put calcium chloride on the track to keep dust down ,dont know if they still do but it would leave that film on your tires every week, in return also gives a bad reading if a tire sample is taken so jmo but i would imagine even if your not using it the right test would fail your tires ,no matter what you do or what class jmo!

I use dawn dish soap (orange scented) with water. Is that illegal?

Yes using a detergent can make you fail a lab test. Products like simple green, any degreasers or even as mentioned dish soaps can cause a failed GC Mass spec test. Using cold water is the best way to efficiently clean your tires. Also by using those other products mentioned you will draw the natural oils from the tire and it will not last as long, and be as consistent heat cycle to heat cycle.

Doesn't anyone think that UMP probably has a good idea as to what chemicals if any are used on any track anywhere during weekly prep? You guys are suggesting that the testing is blind and dumb? You guys don't think UMP knows what oil, antifreeze, dirt and soap are on chemical basis look like on a spectrometer? I'm pretty damn sure UMP knows what they are looking for when they confiscate a tire for review. I have a hard time believing certain variables common to many tracks but not exclusive to others haven't been compensated for. I do believe money and time to tech can be an issue. After all, somebody has to pay for the policing as well as the policing of the testers.
