Rob Toland picked up a hard fought win in the 50 lap, $2000 to Win Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models feature event at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, September 4. Thirty eight cars signed in to do battle on the quarter mile bull ring at Quincy Raceways.Series points leader, Terry Neal drew the pole position for the start of the main event with Toland along side at the drop of the green flag. Toland grabbed the lead on the first circuit but Neal fought back to take command on the second circuit. Toland got back by to regain the lead on the third lap and was never headed the rest of the way, but that did not mean that he had an easy time getting to the checkered flag first. Neal kept the pressure on until Mark Burgtorf got by him to grab the second spot on the sixth lap. Burgtorf then challenged for the lead with Neal hot on his tail for third. The leaders got into heavy lapped traffic by the tenth lap bringing even more variables into play and the leaders diced through the back markers with Burgtorf slipping his nose in front of Toland for a portion of one lap only to relegated back into second with lapped traffic coming into play. Neal got past Burgtorf for the second spot on the fifteenth lap and started to put his own pressure on Toland as the leaders still diced their way through the field. It remained Toland, Neal and Burgtorf in the top three spots until IronMan Darrel DeFrance joined the battle for the lead on the nineteenth lap after starting on the fifth row. DeFrance then picked off Burgtorf for third on the twenty third lap then set sail for the second running Neal, getting the spot away on the twenty nineth lap.. The first yellow flag of the event came out on the thirty first lap with Toland, DeFrance, Burgtorf, Terry Schlipman and Neal as the top 5. Toland kept DeFrance at bay over the next few laps as Burgtorf, Schlipman and Neal had their own private little war for the third through fifth spots. The yellow flag came out again on the fourty fourth lap as the running order was Toland, DeFrance, Neal, Burgtorf and Schlipman. Toland had his hands full holding DeFrance at bay until the checkered flag fell as Neal and Burgtorf battled for third with Neal taking the spot at the checkered flag in a near dead heat. Schlipman held onto fifth followed by Tom Darbyshire, Matt Ryan, Robert Toland III, Jerry Dedrick and Johnny Johnson. Matt Ryan, Rob Toland, Johnny Johnson and Darrel Defrance were the heat race winners with Jay Johnson taking the win in the B-Main.

The Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash Shootout was also on tap for the evening and it looked like Mark Burgtorf had the eight car field covered until a broken belt ended his quest for the Shootout victory on the eighteenth lap of the 20 lapper. Ron Elbe inherited the lead and held off Lonnie Bailey over the last two circuits to take the $500 win with Bailey settling for the second spot.

The Miller A-Modified feature event was a barn burner as Brandon Lennox held off Bob Dale over the final seven laps to take a much needed feature event win. Dale settled for second with Henry Delonjay getting by Ted Allen on the last lap to claim third with Allen and Danny Lake rounding out the top five spot. Allen and Lennox were the heat race winners. Delonjay now holds a 21 point advantage over Lennox in the points battle.

Wyatt Lance held off Robby Reed for the B-Modifed feature win in a race that was time limited to eighteen laps as the yellow flag was brought out too many times. Tony Dunker, Jeff Waterman and Joe Bliven rounded out the top five spots. Dunker and Waterman were the heat race winners with Joe Bliven taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Tony Dunker has a slight mathematical chance at taking the B-Modified points title but Wyatt Lance would just about have to not show up next week as he leads Duner by 25 points.

It did not really matter that Adam Birck started in the sixth row of the Bomber main event as he took the lead on the seventh lap and was never headed on the way to his sixth feature win of the year. Birck was followed across the line by Michael Larson in second, Eddie Dieker in third, Gary Lewis in fourth and Dusty Bingaman in fifth. Birck, Lewis and Dieker were the heat race winners. Dieker now holds a sixteen point margin over Birck in the points race with one race night left in the 2005 season.

Brandon Savage took the feature event win in the Short Trackers fifteen lap main event followed by Andrew Hustead in second, Darren Morgan in third, Don DeMint in fourth and Bobby Whitley in fifth.

The final night for the stock cars at Quincy Raceways is this weekend, Sunday, Sept. 11 with the 2005 Season Championship Race Night. The IMCA Budweiser Late Models Points Championship ended with last weeks rain out with Mark Burgtorf taking his twelveth points championship but other three divisions all have points races on the line as well as the Season Championship competition for all four divisions.
