The final feature races provided race fans some exciting finishes in several classes for Warrensburg Cycle Championship Race Night at Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday evening. Season Points Champions were crowned in four divisions with Joe Walker taking the ‘Mighty” Modified honors, Brett Rollert with another title in the ULMA Late Model class for his second in a row at CMS, Brian Johnson walked away with his first championship in the Street Stock class and Scotty Martin dominated with his first-ever points crown in the B- Modified division. The race fans have been treated to some exciting racing throughout the year and tonight was no different with the fans enjoying the racing action on the track with 85 drivers checked in to compete in four divisions.

Once again the B-modifieds showed improved patience with 26 drivers registered in the pits. Four heat races were completed to sort out the starting line-up for the feature. Mark Evinger was first to visit victory lane with his second heat win this year as he took heat one ahead of Dean Wille and John Ebert. D. J. Dumont won heat two for his fourth this season over Jake Newman and Cliff Owens, with Joshua Jacobs winning heat three for his fifth win ahead of points leader, Scotty Martin and Ethan Issacs. The fourth and final heat race went to Rusty Trimble with his second heat win over Brian Ziegler and Max Grogan. After a wild night of action last week the B-modified drivers set out to prove their driving skills in just the second season for this division. The b-main event completed the 20 car field with C.J. Lyle winning the b-feature and Chad Lebsock, Michael Mullins, driving the 3k -Bubba Kline machine and Tyler Lewis transferring to the feature race. Evinger and Dumont led the field into turn one with Evinger taking the early lead with Joshua Jacobs challenging for the second spot. Evinger and Jacobs had to depart the feature after flat tires ended their night. As the leaders dropped out Martin moved up to take the top spot and never looked back. At the checkered flag it was Martin who won his 13th- feature race victory over Rusty Trimble, who finished in second with his best finish this year. D.J. Dumont had a solid finish in third place with C. J. Lyle all the way up from a 17th- place starting position into fourth, Brian Ziegler ran a smart race to finish fifth.

Another strong field of street stocks entertained the crowd on hand as 20 cars competed in three heat races to determine the feature-race lineup. Marc Carter with the hot hand the last few weeks started with a win in heat one ahead of Steve Barber and Adam Bush. Chad Eickleberry driving Herb Danner’s car was victorious in heat two over Jeff Lazenby and Nick Bennet while Carl Lewis with his first CMS heat victory won heat three ahead of points leader Brian Johnson and Brett Nail. Carter and Eickleberry led the field of street stocks to the line for the feature race with Carter pushing out to a slight early lead over Eickleberry with some smooth side by side racing. Lewis was close behind in third attempting to move up. Jeff Lazenby running in the top four in points had to leave the track on lap nine with an engine problem. Lewis had a flat and was scored in 12th place. Tammy Korff held onto a car with vibration problems to muster a sixth-place finish to move up past Herb Danner into second place in the season ending points battle. In the end Carter holds on to the lead for his second victory in a row with his fourth feature win this year. Eickleberry was in the runner-up spot with the rookie driver Steve Barber third for his best finish this year. Brett Nail had a strong run to fourth and Nick Bennet up into fifth.

With valuable track and season ending ULMA points on the line a total of 18 late models were registered in the pits. Three heat races were contested for the late model drivers on hand. In qualifying heat race one James Rutledge picks up the win for his third heat win with David Angell holding onto second ahead of a hard-charging Owen Evinger in third. In heat race two it was John Binning for his sixth win taking the checkers over Steve Clancy and Kevin Kaiser. Heat race three was another exciting event with Brett Rollert victorious over brothers, Fred and Bob King. Rutledge and Binning led the field to the start of the 15-lap event as Rutledge grabbed the early lead ahead of Binning and Rollert who was working the high side. Rollert moved up in the second spot before passing Rutledge for the lead early on in the race. Binning followed up into the second spot and stayed with Rollert the remainder of the race. A lap eight caution slowed the field when Jimmy Jobe’s car experienced mechanical trouble. Rollert primarily stayed on the high side and Binning to the low side before they were side by side as the white flag flew with the fans on their feet. At the checkered flag it was Rollert securing the win over Binning and the points championship for his fifth feature win at CMS and his second feature victory this weekend. David Angell once again looks strong in third with Clancy fourth and Fred King in fifth.

A total of three heat races were completed in the “mighty” modified division to filter out the feature race field with 21 drivers checked in for the night. The first heat race victory went to Joe Walker for his 11th heat win over Jimmy Dowell and Tim Karrick. Richard Layne looking strong again tonight takes heat two ahead of Dean Wille and Scott Crystal. Don Danner wins heat three for his second heat win this year ahead of Jim Moody and Kyle Westerhold. Once the green flag dropped in the 20-lap main event it was Walker who charged ahead with the early lead ahead of Layne with Danner close behind. After several re-starts when mechanical problems forced Jim Moody and Tim Karrick onto the trailers for the night, Walker started to be challenged by Danner who found some bite on the high side. Layne, Dowell and Westerhold also had early departures off the track with various tire problems after running in the top ten. By lap ten, Danner and Walker were side-by-side, however after yellow flags on laps 14 and 16 Walker held onto the lead on the low side protecting his line and position. As the final double checkers flew for the season Walker drove his 11d modified to victory lane with his fourth feature win this season and the modifed points championship. Walker later commented about how talented the drivers are at CMS and tough it was to win the championship this season. Danner has a great second place finish with Terry Schultz moving up into third, Crystal had his best finish at CMS in fourth and the 2006 points champion, Aaron Marrant rounded out the top five.
