Trans Rebuild

Looking at rebuliding my tran within the next month. I have the 200 4r, want to stay with it, just freshen/beef it up. wanted to know if there are credible trans shops in the area. Long story short, had some friends get burned by "profesional shops" around her (not dropping names) For the price they paid I could have bought an Art Carr or BTO trans. Have about a grand to work with, but would like to walk out with a T/C also. Again, just puttin the feelers out to se whats out there. thanks in advance

I will feel dumb if i name the place that screwed your friend but here we go....lol....I seen your location is SAFB so how about Waynes transmissions or Collins Brothers. Both are in the Belleville area. Just thought i would throw them 2 at you. If i had my choice i would say Collins brothers. Good Luck.

Wow. If you have a grand to play with I would go with a Powerglide built for racing. The TCI, out of Memphis, or Burt Brown at Mansfield Ohio, build proven Powerglides. But if you can't use a Powerglide send Burt a e-mail and he will tell you what you need to build the 200. Burtbrownracingtrans.com is his web site. Good Luck

a 200 is not a strong trans.it's not made to handle any true abuse. if you put some real ponies in front of it, it won't hold up. something to consider before you put down the bucks. art.

strength

I have seem plenty of buick grand nationals run in the 8s at 3600 pouds with the 200r4 tranny. For 1000.00 bucks you can buid a bullet proof 200r4 that you will never tear up with what your doing. The gns are putting out over 1000 hp.

I agree with race goddess..200r4's..they can hold up..but you are talking major beefing up of the transmission insides not to mention converters. Go with a 700 r 4..its a pratical bolt in..minor shifter bracket issue to deal with..and is a great transmission if built correctly.
