Transponders

I've had to rent a receiver but not a transponder, but I bought my own receiver now.. but if i had to rent both and didnt get it my rent back after i turned it in good working order ,i think that my pay should be a little bit more. Jmo

it really does hurt the car count. those "big " events they have cost to get in , $50.00 for pit pas $20 transponder rent $10 raceciever rent and $35.00 foe each crewperson and sometimes $20 to register car. I have had alot of buddies make the trip that were very upset about the rentals and fees. But your running for 5G ? and Racecievers and Transponders are wave of future. They do a job for sure. Time trials and more accurate for sure and group qualifying is better, The raceciever may save a life if they are used rignt and the tracks push the kits to fit your ears instead of just those little buttons.

So Jimmy does this mean that the area tracks are considering charging the drivers for this as well?

No, not that i'm aware of.

I just posted this to help make aware that the cost involved. The tracks around here have absorbed it. Transponder system and transponders can cost the track $20,000 ++.. Scoreboards can add another $20,000

3 scorers per night, $100 each is $300.

$20000/200= 100 (you still have to have one scorer anyway as a backup to your transponders.)

So basically, the transponder system has to be in use for at least 100 nights before it starts breaking even just on the cost of labor alone. What is that at most tracks, 4 years at least, if not 5? And in that time I would be fairly certain you would be spending some money on maintenance on your transponder system.

Add the scoreboard and you are probably looking at 10 years or more before it pays for itself in saved labor costs.

Of course some tracks are passing on the bulk of the cost to the racers. Otherwise, they would never do it. I don't know of any track owner who would shell out that kind of cash and not expect to get any return on it for 4 years or more.

Sure, manual scorers make mistakes, but the racers are certainly going to get hit hard in the pocketbook for a system that really isn't completely fail safe either. Kudos to any track that isn't having the racers pay for the convenience.

The transponder fee was why I did not make the tow to MMSP, and would keep me from another. You can only milk the racer so much. Kermit has an idea with the camera, until a rental fee pops into some ones mind.

I know a late model driver who has his own and when he races he has a very hard time at the track because they either say oh they don't work with our system or well we have been told that you can actually go in there and change some thing to give off a false reading so they would not let him use his. I have never been charged for one and Macon Speedway has never charged nor any of the local tracks around here. If it is a cost to the tracks to operate why would the racer have to pay for it? We do not pay for the fuel in the grader and the up keep of the facility with a rental fee. I think promoters better be careful or they will actually price themselves right out of racing.

For the love of god will someone listen to Rusty. One camera could eliminate the entire field of transponders if used efficiently!
