Tri-City and I-55 tracks and additives

Went to Tri-city Sunday. The track nows looks and races like I-55. I know the fans want fast racing and less dust but this is not good for the racers pocket book. These tracks are way too fast and way too hard on equipment.
I am hearing that some of the mods (1w) are now running 700 hp. They need it because on these tracks only the big motors rule.

I know some racers like them this way but most do not. I-55 LM car counts have been suffering somewhat. Wondering if more racers will look elsewhere to race.

Your opinion please (without the bashing. ) Thanks

ps Is Kevin using the soil additive at Tri-City also?

Im not that familiar with the track conditions at I-55 but what you saw at Tri-City last sunday is the way that track has been for the last 4 or 5 years.
Tri-City has allways been tacky and fast.
For the most part of this season the track has been dry and dusty (due to the extremely dry summer). Now that weve gotten some rain the track is back to its old self again.

I was told that the track normally slickens up. What was the substance that they were spraying on the track? Didnt appear to be water.

Why would some one not want the track fast ? How is it tearing up cars? And if 1w is running 700 hp what is the normal for most mod drivers to run? And if it was not water what was it what kind of additive are you talking about? I don't go to tri-city Sundays I kick back at home but I would think faster tacky track would be a good thing.

What Most Racers That I Talk With Don't Like Is The "rough" Tracks. A Lot Of Times Thats What You End Up With When It Heavy And Tacky. Another Thing Is When It Very Tacky It Makes Everybody Faster. And A Lot Of Times Thats When You Get Follow The Leader Racing. Some Guys Wish For These Conditions. Because Its A Band-aid For The Problem They Have Of Not Getting Their Car To Work In The Slick. I Agree The Dust Sux For The Fans. But When Its Slick, In My Opinion It Makes For Better Racing. More Competitive Racing To Me. But There Is Different Kinds Of Slick Tracks. The Dusty Type Slick Sux, Because There Isn't Much To Get Ahold Of. But The Black Type Slick? To Me Makes For Good Racing.

Not all racers like pedal to the metal. In the heat race the LMs were full bore-no brakes- only gas. This is hard on motors and if you crash you crash hard and tear up more stuff. It also hurts the little guys who cant afford big dollar big horsepower motors. Also, 700 hp is definitely the tops in mods. Many LM arent running 700 hp except those who own Pro-power Racetech, Russell Baker etc. Everyone talks big dyno numbers but most "locals" cant afford that type of motor so it makes it harder for him to compete.

lastly, there have been a number of LM and mod racer who have complained about the i-55 track. Many have stopped going or dont go as often.

ps Tri-city was rough again on Sunday.

You need look back no further than fifth in the mod feature to find a low budget racer making the grade with skills, not money. Bob Stanton, #51. Ever look at his car closely? I know for a FACT that car is probably one of the least sophisticated with a small engine in it, and he held his own in the heat and feature.

I guess you would complain bitterly about the track conditions if you spent huge amounts of money on horsepower and equipment and were getting beat by the budget guy who could drive.

Pam, if you don't like spending huge amounts of money to keep up with the big budget racers, you could always check out the Fastrak crate late models. Affordable engines and a great bunch of people to go racing with, at a variety of tracks.

Pevely LM counts are suffering? Not in the last three years. And Pevely can go dry slick just like any other track. It's been fast as of late because of the rain and nature of the clay.

I agree with most. Tacky tracks are nothing but wear and tear on motors and equipment. I think there will be a continuous decline in car counts; maybe only by a few, but nonetheless I believe there will be a decline. It also promotes very boring racing, get in line on the top, stand on it and go; and there is absolutely no finesse in that.

Have a great week!!!

We have had an Impressive, Shaw, Cyclone, and Pierce Chassis... NONE of them were/are fond of these conditions.

Only people conplaining are people w/ rocket cars and pierce cars they are tight cars and are good on slick tracks by nature.Oh and drivers with some extra electronics .

the only kind of car that likes these wet rough tracks are the good old two link cars, there isnt much that these cars cant handle and they love a wet rough track. but pierce, and others car that are naturlly tight will go,you just got to work with it.and buy the way i love wett, tacky tracks it makes for great action packed racing.... :D

Dirt Burner, I Would Have To Disagree With You On The Pierce And Rocket Comment!

Look At Randy Korte He Is Winning On Both Types Of Tracks. Heck He Set Fast Time Out At The Jackson And They Had Huge Amounts Of Rain!

Belleville Is Smooth And Slick Almost Everynight (good Job Guys) And What Do You Tear Up? A Right Rear Quarter. Maybe A Tire Mark Here And There.

Pevely Is Wide Open Freight Train Racin' Around The Middle To The Top Depending On Where The Cushion Is. Chooo Choooo!!!! This Is No Fun For Anyone. What Do You Tear Up At Pevely A Bunch!

Pevely Does Put Chem. On Their Track This Is A Fact! Why Do The Tires Turn Blue On Race Cars After They Have Raced At Pevely.

There Is Also Woodchips On The Track! I Think This Is Because They Go Out And Cut Down The Trees In The Cornfield Before They Race! But All Laughing Aside There Are Woodchips In The Track!

Why Dont People Around Here Like Slick Tracks? Is This Because The Do Not Have A Handle On Their Cars? That Answer I Dont Know!

Thanks,

As a fan for almost 50 years now, when I go to a dry slick track I don't return...needles to say I don't attend many races anymore. I'm sorry I just can't fathom a dry slick race track...to me its just plain boring

Track conditions

Bring on the dryslick :) Big motor guys have to drive a bit more and rest of us have a better shot at a good finish when hp is negated by track conditions. As for tacky tracks tearing up stuff? I'd say its still mostly the drivers tearing things up. No I'm not complaining about big hp engines, I want one :)

Freight train racing at I-55???

I've only seen one show this season at I-55 where it was a freight train. Apparently you haven't been there too often.

I sure seem to remember guys like Tim Ratajczyk, Don Jumper and others running right around the bottom in the late models. Some modified guys running the very bottom with success this season include Tom Ratajczyk, Leon Rakers and I know Jim Shereck won a main event holding Rakers off right around the inside wall.

The only reason tacky tracks tear-up more cars, as evidenced last week at I-55, is that drivers try to do too much on the first lap. Without mentioning names, a driver in one of the classes wiped-out two other cars on the first turn of the first lap of the heat. Luckily, the two other cars were able to continue - he was not.

Then, he tried doing the same thing in the semi. Same thing, first turn of first lap, wiped out and cost himself and a couple of others a shot at making the feature.

The car counts ALWAYS drop toward the end of the year! Number one, the cars and the motors are tired from racing all summer long. This is the time of year you see more engines let go.

Also, school is back in session and with all the high school sports and activities, some racers take a back seat for the kids.

Lastly, let's not forget that the cost of gas is definitely affecting car counts. Look at all the drivers who have forgone the big enclosed trailers. The added trips transporting the kids to various activities does not leave some people the extra money to make a commute to the race track, much less, tow a race car there.

Tacky tracks have proven to be a better show. Usually a decent ride down low and a good cushion for the top. Naeger and Stuppy put on a heck of a show in the Sportsman Feature last week running wherever they needed to - top, bottom or through the middle. One groove racing is the black dry-slick tracks that have one groove - up high - where there are more sparks and sheet metal fying than dirt.

If the drivers would quit trying to win the race on the first lap, and would race eachother clean, a tacky track is a driver's track and a better show. It definitely levels the playing field and seperates the money guys from the drivers!

I just got done grinding the blue off of the tires that we ran with at pevely saturday so that is from the chemicals they use i thought they were that color from beingglazed over.I thought the racing at pevely was great.how did you like brownstown wang????????

Last year at I-55 they had 3 and 4 wide racing all night long with the dryer track. Now they have a one or two grove track, which you need a lot of horsepower. not near as good of racing to me
