Tri-City and I-55 tracks and additives

For Every One Feature Won From The Bottom At Pevely In The Mods And Lm's, There Will Be Five Won From The Top. Thats Why You See Ray Marler Out There Between Races Trying To Keep That Cushion Down Some. Thats The Deal With I55. Keep The Cushion Down. Don't Give The Guys A Big Cushion To Lean On, And You'll See Guys Moving Around Searching For Good Dirt. If A Good Cushion Builds Up, Its A Race To The Top. The 1st One There Usually Wins. Unless Someone Pulls That Kamikaze Slide Job And Makes It.

The Sportsman On The Other Hand Usually Race Middle To Bottom. Thats Because Of The Weight And Horsepower Differnce.

I know it was a yawn bore the last few years when they went to the top and banged the wall constantly follow the leader 1st to the front wins that was not exciting at all unless the check was made out to you. LOL! I think Ray has kept the top down to keep the mud from flying into the stands and liabilities. We have have multiple winners this year. That's exciting. The track might be tacky but the bigger motors are not doing the job as they did in the past. I think the playing field has been leveled alot more! Now we don't know who is going to win before the night starts. Yep it has been more exciting this year than in the past. And the only reasons Wang is complianing is because his favorite driver does tear up his stuff alot! And everyone elses... Talked to a guy who races at another track often just this Saturday Night and he was surprised at how much tire he had left after racing I-55. He said he normally burns 2-3 tires at another track! He came to I-55 due to gas prices and said heck I saved more on tires than I did gas. He was quite funny! I know some drivers are choosing another track from time to time because of the track not being set up to their requests. Well 30 something Mods a week and we all can't have it our way! J/M/O

Man I hate to even get in the middle of this but... If these tracks would go by qualifiying instead of pill draw or passing points that would help with all the equipment getting tore up and it would make for a more competitve race. People dont like qualifing and most classes dont have the opportunity to do it but all the blame for bad finishes can be placed on the drivers and his abilites instead of the track preparer.
Everyone can push the gas and thats where the equipment gets tore up - if the car isnt handeling right the gas will only get you in trouble. Now when you talk about a slick track the guys with the big motors have to really drive and work the car to keep the motor under control and the tires from spinning.
I dont like dust but I care less to bring home pieces of a good car.

20 Rocks I Didn't Get To Go To Indiana This Weekend, Wish I Could Have... Oh Well Can't Go Racing All The Time. I Didn't Know That Tires Could Turn Blue On The Sidewalls From Being Glazed Over?

Dirtgirl My Favorite Driver Does Not Tear Up Stuff All The Time. He Is Actually Quite A Good Driver, But Do To Lack Of Funding He Can't Always Compete...

Sorry That You Thought You Knew Me! Have Another Beer!

Hey Jimmy What Was The Announcer Saying Earier This Year... Randy Korte Won His Heat, The Dash And The Feature... The Next Week It Was Billy Faust He Won His Heat, Dash, And Feature... Two Weeks After That Justin Alllllllguire Won His Heat The Dash And The Feature...

Now Both Billy And Randy Were At The Race That Justin Won. There Was No Lack In Drivers Or Hp So You Can't Use That As An Excuse!

Boys And Girl What Does That Spell??? The Monkey That Starts Up Front Runs Up Front!!! No Passing!!!

Thanks,

Wang!

Teak77 How is qualifying going to help with equipment getting torn up and make for more competitive racing. Driving within your means will help with equipment not getting torn up. Not over driving your race car helps with equipment not being torn up. Also being a great driver helps with not tearing up equipment. Yea lets qualify then everyone can complain that he got a better track when he went out because he qualified earlyer then me. Lets put the fast guys on the front row so they can run off and leave the others and end up with single file racing again just spread out more around the track.

What happened when race car drivers went to the track and made adjustments for the track. I thought that is why people raced to compete and go FAST. I agree sometimes the heats are follow the leader but I can only remember one feature at I-55 this year that they played follow the leader and that was when they qualified for a big show and the feature was the most boring I ever seen (RUBBERED UP). The last three late model features at I-55 have been fantastic. The mods are great every week. People should go somewhere else for a while and see if the grass is greener on the other side. It's easyer to blame the track when you just missed the set up.
I'll step down from my soap box now.
Thank you

Different strokes for different folks.Someone said earlier that a dry slick track takes the hp away and lets the drivers ability show.Another said that a tacky track takes the hp away and you end up with a train around top.

Yes,I'm just a fan,but I know what I like and what I don't like. I think that I have very different hopes of what the evening of racing will be like compared to most of the drivers nowadays.I go for the sights, sounds, smells.I go for the action and an adrenaline rush.(I know I'll get bashed for this but here it goes) Like I said,I want action.I remember going out to St.Charles Speedway years ago and it was wild and crazy! People bangin, flippin,PASSING!! I'm not a moron,I know that things are alot more expensive than ever before for racers but you can tell that they just don't want to mix it up anymore.I used to see slide jobs all the time and alot more aggressive driving. Now a guy will attempt one and give up at the last second (I suppose) for fear that he will damage his or the other drivers car.Much less all the people on here saying how so and so wrecked so and so.I used to walk away at the end of the night thinking to myself "that was so cool, what guts those guys have and what driving skills they possess,I can hardly wait till next week".Then things started changing a few years ago and I didn't see as much of the type of racing that I had grown to love. I think it can be blamed on two things.#1.Racers in ALL the classes have ( and remember folks, I'm not talking about ALL the drivers ) got this thing where they think they are some kind of NASCAR junior guys.(They get touched and they get an attitude) #2.DRY racetracks.Over the last couple of years I have been very tempted to leave after the heat races (which is the only time the cars seem to have any ability to PASS each other) BECAUSE after the heats there is no more MOISTURE in the track and you know it's going to be a freight train around the bottom of a nice big, wide track. The worst is when you get there and it's turning black in hot laps.People say it's because of no rain.Heck, years ago we had summers without rain and the tracks always had moisture. It's because they WATERED it.Yeah, muddy, bumpy, rutty does **** for the racers but it makes for some exciting racing.Nothing worse than seeing those cars with all that hp spinning their tires going around single file and not wanting to or being afraid to try to make a move because they might lose their position and or wreck their car because of what I will call "UNRACEABLE" conditions. Thank you and have a nice evening. :)

Dixon going from last to 2nd is worth the price of admission! The person who started the thread probably doesn't even go to Pevely! Earlier in the year somebody complained it was to dry and not fast enough now somebody is complaining its to wet and tearing up equipment. Just shut up and race!

YOU KINDA SUMMED IT UP IN A NUT SHELL RIGHT AWAY.

I REMEMBER ST.CHARLES BACK IN THE DAY ALSO. BACK IN THE DAY CARS WEREN'T NEARLY AS PRICEY AS THEY ARE NOW. FROM SPORTSMAN TO LATE MODELS NOWADAYS. YOU DON'T RUN TO THE SALVAGE YARD TO GET PARTS. EXCEPT MAYBE SOME TRAILING ARMS OR LOWER A ARMS FOR A SPORTSMAN.

IF YOU WANT TO GET A VIEW OF THE "NEW" DRIVERS PERSPECTIVE, YOU NEED TO STOP BUY THE PIT AREA SOME NIGHT. GO TO A LATE MODEL PIT A MODIFIED PIT AND A SPORTSMAN PIT AND ASK THEM. ASK THEM WHAT SOME OF THE STUFF COST ON THESE CARS. ASK A LATE MODEL GUY WHAT HIS BILL WILL BE TO REPLACE THE LEFT FRONT WHEN SOMEBODY CLEANS IT OFF WITH SOME WILDMAN SLIDE JOB. I CAN TELL YOU, A $1000 WILL GET HIM STARTED.

IT REALLY SOUNDS AS THOUGH YOU LIKE THE DESTRUCTION AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE A GOOD RACE. IF YOU WERE BANK ROLLING THESE GUYS OPERATIONS YOU WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION ALSO. IF YOU WANT TO FINANCE ONE, LET ME KNOW.

NOT TRYING TO BASH YOU. YOU'RE HAVE THE RIGHT TO YOUR OPINION, LIKES AND DISLIKES. JUST TRY AND UNDERSTAND WHERE THESE GUYS ARE COMING FROM WITH THEIRS.

Hey Nekken, there are some great demo derbys in this area that you could catch. Calhoun county is probably just the kind of action you are looking for. Heck, Highland even holds a combine derby. If you're really looking for carnage combined will bad racing you should check out the Talladega race in Oct. I'm not trying to totally slam you but I'm not sure exactly what you want in a racetrack or a racer. Big b*lls and brainfade or incredible skills and saavy? Personally I would rather see a track slick up a bit so the guys who can drive are able to show just who's smooth and who's not. Anyone can just hammer down and let it eat. Make hp less of a factor and put it in the hands of the driver. I haven't been able to attend I-55 yet this year so I can't speak for what type racing they have had. Normally I am at Highland and Tri-City every weekend. In the LM's and Mod's I don't see guys p*ssyfooting it so they don't scratch up their racecars. I do (normally) see guys that push it to the limit yet show a level of respect for their fellow competitors and their equipment. Yeah, I guess everybody could put slide jobs on every guy they pass. Maybe knock the front clip off while body slammin' that guy out of the ballpark? I'd rather watch guy's like Oller, Smith Jr., and Martintoni show the fans how it's done.

Hootie -
I think that the guys who prepare these race tracks do the best that they can. They are under extreme amounts of pressure to put on a good show for the fans and to keep the drivers at their race tracks. They would almost have to be able to create miracles in order to make everyone happy.
From a car owners point of view, I like qualifying BECAUSE
Qualifying allows drivers to line up near drivers they are able to compete against. First turn incidents are reduced dramatically, and fans get to see true battles for position between drivers of similar speed that night.
Pay attention how much equipment gets tore up when the track is tacky all night vs slicked off? My driver and I both know to drive within your means but what about the other 8 guys out on the track with you? And there is nothing that makes me madder than when someone does a bad slide job! Not all guys drive with blinders on so the guy that has to let off gets screwed - now what kind of race is that? I would rather be shoved into the wall and taken out like that vs getting run over cause someone thought they could use the whole track and didnt have you cleared!
Racn is Racn, if you want crashes go to the demo - they have alot less money in their cars and seem to have more fun crashing them.
